Subwoofer Noise
 

The past few weeks I've started hearing a low rumble from my subwoofer, and I noticed that it was due to the CD player. You can hear the cd spinning and selecting the next track causes a louder rumble when the laser lense is moving. Any ideas??

I've tried the subsonic filter and adjusting levels but it doesn't make a difference. There is no other noise from anything else.

get a new deck....probably a bad ground somewhere...i had a problem like that before with a clarion deck, i tried everything to make it stop, finally just switched decks and it went away...could be fixable tho

I've seen this on low end equipment before. It's usually because the opamps used have a poor power supply rejection ratio (PSRR). Noise dumped into the power supply by the CD transport motor is getting into the audio path. Not much you can do about it. If the problem is new then return the deck if you can. Otherwise you would have to know how to open it up and add filtering. Not even worth it in my opinion.

I have heard it on a Pioneer and Panasonic decks... darn annoying too

Thanks guys. Figured it might be just a problem with filtering/low quality deck. Too bad, it's only a year old, hopefully crutchfield can help me out a bit in getting a new one, they seem pretty awesome to deal with.

seriously a bad RCA can do this... a simple pinched wire or a partially pulled out plug can cause it.

Well I checked the cable and plugs, but everything was good. I switched to the front RCA pre outs and no noise at all. I have the crossovers and levels set on the amp itself now, not much control from the deck at all but it sounds pretty good.

bad solder joint in the HU?

Yeah, I'm assuming it lost a ground somewhere with the sub pre-out.
