Subwoofer sound delay from prefab box

I've always wondered about this when a few years ago, I was listening to some Trance music in my old car. I had a 10" Infinity Reference woofer in a bassworx ported box.

So I cranked up the volume and at a certain point in a song, my midrange speakers would hit but the bass from the woofer sounded like it was delaying the bass response from my front speakers. It seemed to happen on a fast bass beats.

I know the box was a prebuilt p.o.s, but what would cause the delay and why it would happen?

Ah I don't have the system anymore, I sold it with the car. I was just wondering what the problem was. The more I learn the better, I'll start some reading of course.

Yeah seems to be a phase problem I guess from what I'm reading.
