Testing output of amps installed

Anyone tested the amplifiers you have installed? I've tested 3 now. Using an amp clamp and a digital multimeter. I tested a 4000 watt planet audio, a 6000 watt Rockville and a 900 watt pioneer. Results were interesting. The planet put out 300 ( Using round numbers) at 4 ohms. The Rockville did 500 and the pioneer did 350. That was done installed with the same subwoofers. 2 12" massive dvc subs. Using a 50htz test tone. The amps were preset to just under clipping and the eq was flat. The advertised ratings rms on each amp did not correspond with the actual power produced on any of them. So that makes me wonder all this talk about matching subs and amps. How is that ever truly achieved?
