GENTLEMEN......Everyone must start somewhere....

and yes this is a question some have heard before but the answer is just as important for each new guy/ gal. If you look at electronic equipment marketing the new purchaser is bombarded with options and the technology is new and therefore strange. After a while the uninitiated start to figure things out (hopefully forums like this help rather than intimidate) and hopefully the lessons are inexpensive but many on this forum, if not most, can point out expensive mistakes they have made.

So my question is : do you want a single brand from HU to amp to speakers or some middle ground. There are only a couple brands that do it all (Sony, Pioneer, alpine, Kenwood, Clarion... who am I forgetting????)

Personally I mix and match, and cherry pick the items that I feel outperform the others.

no one brand has the best of everything and at a particular time, some are much better than others. Example, Alpine F#1 status was arguably the best about 5years ago, but today Pioneer seems to have the most technically advanced equipment. Most manufacturers go through periods of up and down cycles with their product lines as they best try to accomodate their market. Quite frankly, I don't think you can go wrong with too many products these days as virtually all good brands have had to compete with each other and as a result their performance is extremely high. You can get 24 bit dacs, usb digital inputs, optical outputs, internal amplifier shut off modes, 4 volt+ rca outs, and all the convenience features to boot. Most of these features were only available in very high end units only a few years ago. My suggestion as always...go shopping and touch and play with the stuff to see what you like. Listen to as many speakers as you can and decide with your ears and wallet, and get a good install.

Start with your budget and then read all you can on the stuff you can afford.

When asking a loaded question like this it's kind of hard to answer truthfully

but in *my* opinion - If you want to just blindly purchase ALL of your gear from the same manufacturer your best bet is probably Pioneer.

PS: Don't believe all the haters, for the price point Pyle stuff is fun to play with because for the money you spend it really doesn't break your heart if you blow a piece up, all in all, it's decent stuff as long as it's installed and used correctly.
