2 15" RE SE box help
 

Hey guys,i have a 98 civic coupe and 2 15" RE SE subs in a ported box..I believe the box is just under 5 cubes (4.8-4.9 cubes) and tuned anywhere between 40-45hz.The subs are powered by a hifonics bxi1206 amp giving them about 1200w rms.I am fairly pleased with this setup given the box specs
however I am curious to know if i can significantly improve the sound of the subs by building a bigger box tuned at a lower frequency.I am looking for deep heart stopping bass and willing to sacrifice the whole trunk.

What do you guys suggest?

The subs fire up and the port is facing the rear,would it get any louder if both the port and subs were firing towards the cabin?

Drop tuning to around 35hz and add a cubic foot of space.

You need to run more power. You have 2 15 re se's. That hifonics amp is about 25% over rated so you are only really running like 900-1000 rms into those subs. The subs say they are 600 rms per but can handle a little more so get a bigger amp by another 500 watts at least and you will notice a big improvement. Also If you build a new box which you should cause those subs require 3 cubes per at minimum make it at least that big or go to 4 cubes per if you have the room and face subs and ports forward with seats down.

Not that it'll make much of a difference but like Moley said you might as well get a 1500W amp so they see an actual +/- 600W. Point it all into the cabin and use as much space as you can fit port area, up to around 16 sq.in. per cubic foot. For instance if your box is 38 wide, .75" MDF, and the port is in the middle, you have 6.75" port width (*19 = 128.25 square inches/good for 8 cubes @ 30-35hz). Measurements?

Lets get realistic here.

You can't get more than 6.5 cubes out of a trunk car.

10.5 sealed/internal (38*30*20) in my Alero with the rear seat up if I rip out the metal, which I could do with a screwdriver. It's always the damn opening that'll mess up a design. Realistically 5 cubes after displacements for ported. Look at Meades' old civic.

Meades old civic was also a sealed enclosure built WITHIN the trunk using fiberglass and such.

It's EXTREMELY hard to get anything more than 6.5 cubes after displacement posted in a trunk car

Moley I know my subs are capable of handling more power and I certainly plan to upgrade my amp in the future.Perhaps a rf T-2000-1 or something within that power range.Thanks for the box suggestion I know 15s aren't ideal in a car this size but doesn't quite do it for me.
