8 inch ported or sealed?
Hi.
I know this mainly depends on the driver itself, but usually they are optional (ported or sealed) and my question is what is better for an 8 inch- ported or sealed? I'm leaning toward sealed since I don't have much space for the box and I like tight bass (mid-bass in this case).... |
depends on the subwoofer itself.
some subwoofers preform better in a ported enclosure while others are better in a sealed enclosure. if your going sealed, i wouldnt go over 0.75 cubic feet |

Thanks for restating my statement.
what driver are you using what power are you giving it what car is it going in what do you want outta the enclosure (SPL or SQ) The less info you give, the less info we respond with |
If you want a single 8 to perform at any kind of decent level, I suggest you buy a good one and vent it.

He is on a budget, I gave him a deal on a 8", 25% cheaper than his last quote and it was too much for him. There are very few used 8" subs out there and even fewer with the specs he is interested in. Buy a good sub and vent it.

here are subs most likely in your price range that are actually really good.
This one will work in a really small box. Solen Electronique Inc. Most 8 inch subs will require almost as big of a box as a 10... keep that in mind. Also, bad idea to want your sub to handle your midbase (unless it is stereo and up front since there are still lots of vocals and imiging cues around that area). You really shouldnt hope to rely on your sub for midbase, that's not how you should go about it. Get better speakers for the front or do a door treatement (where you deaden it and seal up the big holes) as well as amplifing your front speakers will help. More subs: Solen Electronique Inc. Solen Electronique Inc. Now you might not have ever heard of tang band or dayton but they are not "no names", it's some of the best buget stuff available on the market. |
1.- I'm looking to fill 60-100hz gap in my system (I have powered 6.5" and 6X9 allready also have tweeters) lows are the job for my 12".
2- I'm not looking into $400 speakers because I find it ridicilous. 3- the speaker is going to be mounted in the cabin so very limited space, if ported I will have to remove center console, If sealed Ill put it behind it. MR2NR - sorry but I'm not spending $300 on a 8". jalat- the question was simply are 8" better in sealed or ported boxes, from my experience bigger speaker performs better in ported box, here i might be wrong, BUT ported gives you lower tones and more efficiency. Therefore I was just checking if sealed will be better for the 8". Yes it depends on a driver but usually in manua; its optional (ported or sealed). AAAAAAA- thnx for posting some links ill check them out. I don't think I'll get a straight up answer here so close the thread. P.s. - I will probably go with sealed for SQ |
