Aero ports.

Aero ports.
Ok so after looking at pics around the forum and seeing it in several articles, why do you build the box and have the port out side of it? I understand the benefit of aero ports (well okay maybe not but i understand the design) I just dont understand why you have the port tube outside of the enclosure? any one feel like filling me in on this?
In addition it seems to me this would be a great way to find a balance between an SPL box and a 'normal' box because you could make it so that you could change the tube length rather easily... or am i way off base?
Thanks, Justin
P.s. while it may not be pretty i think they look rather mean, mean is good!

so basically its easier to figure out the enclosure size when the port displacement isnt inside of the box itself? also i suppose it would make for much easier box tuning when setting a new system.

Yeah, exactly. When the ports are outside of the box, you don't have to account for them displacing volume inside the box (which can be a big help if you're strapped for space in there). Also, as you said, it's easier to play with the length of the ports if they're external as well.

and it looks bad *** hhahahah though i think its a good idea because it would actually make building a ported enclosure easier... and well i ve been having a bitch of time figuring out how to design one properly lately
