Alpine Type E and Bassworx Box

I am usually used to using higher end equipment but I came across a pair of 12" Alpine Type E subwoofers. They are currently in a Bassworx HPR212G which is 3tf2 tuned to 42hz.

I recognize the port tuning may not be low enough to get adequate SQ out of the subs for my liking so I was going to try a couple options if it doesn't sound right when I fire it up.

First option was to plug one of the ports. What would this do to the tuning frequency?

Second option is to plug both ports. Are there any concerns running these subs in a 3ft2 box?

Power is conservative at 100RMS from an Alpine MRP F600

Thanks in advance

Oh? What tuning frequency gives you SQ?

The box will be tuned lower. Velocity through the remaining vent jumps also though.

At 100 watts, probably not.

Hmmm, perhaps I mis worded that. What I was referring to was not knowing if the 42 hz tune would be adequate for my needs which can on occasion include rap. The amp I am currently using has a fixed subsonic filter at 15 hz. Subs play down to 27 hz. I am somewhat concerned about playing rap in my car knowing the subs are playing notes below the tuning frequency.

Is the box a single chamber? The bassworx dual 12" box I once owned had separate chambers, so plugging one port wouldn't do much good. Nothing wrong with running them sealed.

I would not do it at high power for the reason you mentioned. I would convert to sealed or build a box more suited to what you need. I'd try sealed first, it's basically free, then maybe try adding a little boost down low if it doesn't give the extension you want. Then go custom box if it just wont cut it for you.
