Box building
 

I've decided to use Russian birch plywood, heard it was a nice alternative to ugly mdf. No carpet needed, just varnish for natural beauty! Cheers :)

Build-up starts today, I'm using 1" think wood. Apparently Russian birch have the same density of mdf but is about 30% lighter . I'll take some pics during the build-up and will try to post a few. I've spent 110$ tx included for all the material needed which include: the plywood, glue, varnish, sand paper, paint brush, wood filler. Not included in that price is the price of :Hertz mille 12' sub, 3M glue and since I could not find the proper port cylinder I ordered that from Italy and so is the damping material. This should be a fun build. Let me know what you guys think.

I think you should post some pics of the build as you do it....if there is anything that doesn't look right to one of the vets here it will be easier to correct before you finish everything....:smokin:

I manage to do quite a bit of work today. On the first picture you can see the hole for the connector cup and on the second picture ,thats the hole for the port. I left some room to clear the 2" thickness of damping material that goes on the back wall. I still have to secure the second front panel on. I test fitted the sub in the box and it fits well. Tomorow I will do lots of sanding and vanishing and more drying. Hope I havent made too many mistakes so far. It's my first ever box build-up.

Lots of sanding today and I installed the second front panel. I will do a final test fit of the sub tomorow with the grill on. Man if I knew it would have been so much work I would have just put a carpet all over it! the first coat of varnish is done. Got two more coats to go. I wish I had a router for the sub hole, they aren't perfect :( Now I have to decide on what to use to secure the sub in place.... the regular wood screws that came with the sub or some "T" nuts and bolts? What do you guys suggest ?

Wood screws are fine if you are

A: going to leave them in there for a while or

B: aren't throwing a ton of power at them.

The nuts and bolts are handy if you are going to be tweaking things for a while, it keeps the holes from getting stripped.....:thumbsup:
