box help
so i found out im going back to work today so that means its time build a new sub box.the sub i am building the box for is an ultimate cupric 12" i currently have it in a ported 1.1 cf @ 33hz after displacement.this box does not sound good and gives me a great deal of port noise.
these are all the t/s paramerters i have for the sub. QTS:.47 VAS:1.54 FS:28.2 hz XMAX:19mm 400 rms. so now im hopeing to build a new slot port box SLQ box.can anyone help me out.i can build anything its the designing part that i have the trouble with. oh and its going into an extend cab truck and id like to keep the box under 2 cf thanx guys |
ouch 2 cf for a 12 seems kinda small. i know my 10" likes 2 cubes . but you will definitly need seomthign bigger then 1.1 ...

well i posted on another forum a while ago and the only recomendation i got was 1.0cu.ft @24hz with 14 sq.in of port but small box and low tuning dont go very well togther.

1.75cuft looks like a decent volume with a 4" ventbetween 13 and 18" long.

Most subs work well within a small range of box sizes....
For example a sub would have a manufacture recommended enclosure size of between 1.25 and 1.75 cubic feet ported.....the smaller size will yield a 'tighter' sound while the larger size will yield a 'deeper/boomier' sound. |

At 18" the box is tuned to 30hz.
Two things one should generally avoid with a vented box, tuning below Fs and tuning much below 30hz. In your case both rules coincide. |
Aside from some specialty recordings, there is very very little information that is recorded under 30hz. If one tunes much below 30hz they may not realize the full benefit of their vent.
