Box Size

Ok so heres the skinny. I'm planning on getting some new subs and build an enclosure for them, but I have some questions about size. Now the recommended size is 2-2.5 cubic feet, and the driver displacement is 12 cubic feet. If I were going for 2.5 cubes, would I need to make the box 2.13 ft^3?

furthermore, what difference does size make between 2.5 and 4 ft^3? i only ask because i see guys with huge boxes and don't know the exact mechanics behind why

oh lol yeah .12 cubic feet. sorry guys, old keyboard so some buttons don't work all the time. i haven't got them yet but i'm hoping to get two 12'' incriminator audio lethal injections
