box type to protect blowing subs?

I'll be running 800w rms @ 1 ohm to 2 12" 300w rms 4 ohm dvcs. Besides keeping it turned down, can any specific box "protect" the subs somewhat should I get bass knob happy? And what kind bass should I expect? ie. tight, low, no low bass etc ?

Does it have to do with the manufacturers recommended box size? Its seems sooooo tiny, I can't even find boxes that small!! :dunno: I think one was .35cf!! Is that after the subs displacement? The manuals don't say!!!
A little of topic but...
When did Kicker become almost seemingly ummmm. A shadow of their former self? Or am I missing something.

peace

well generally running a sealed box will allow for a little higher power handling.

but why go with a specific box type for that reason?
go with what sounds best and simply tune the system with its limits in mind so you can't damage anything?.

what amp are you planning on running at 1ohm daily?

...some amps can handle it, but personally, most companies saying their amps are 1ohm stable i am sketchy on. anything below 2ohms and it better be a nice amp for daily running.
not that it can't be done, i'd just be a little more careful.

i'm suprised how many people post thread with amp issues and they are running half ohm loads or something like that daily:P

....kinda got of track there, but stick with a well designed ported enclosure and just know your systems limits.

These puppies can handle .5 - 1ohm stable daily. :)

At 1ohm, depending on the amp itself, you "may" be ok. What amp is it?

Those amps look like a child mathematician had some fun with crayons, or is that just the horrible stylings of the '90s? LOL

The amp is a US amps xterminator xt2000d

Jstoner22 - really, I just dont wanna blow the subs, I figured I'll be happy with any bass type(since my music is varied anyhow) so longevity for the subs is 1st order right now. But good advice, I will look into it.

The amp is suppose to be 1ohm stable, from what I read it said it was designed to run 1ohm. Guess well see.

Nagmitsu - I remember those amps, alothough I never had one, wasn't that around the time when all sort of companies were claiming 1/2 1/4 ohm stable with the amp rated like 2x 25 (but put out 400) phoenix gold/ppi/soundstream+++?

Yes, pretty much. They are 25w amps, that put out tons of power when they have more load on them. The ProMos 25 (2 channel version) I was possibly one of the first to own one in southern Ontario when they came out. Old school cheater amp. They'll give a good run against modern amps. I am looking forward to the June 27th show at Selective Sound to see how the system fairs against others in street class.

To OP: I did see/hear a KICKER vehicle at the performance world car show... it appears that they still have a pulse

SOULMUSIC 04-16-2010 07:04 PM

Got a chuckle outta that when I remembered the impulse line..lol I hope there pulse is stronger than that line!!
I'm not sure I like the sqaure subs , but at that price, I guess they must still have some decent stuff, but the new amps are UUUUgly.
I liked them much better when most of there stuff seemed much more industrial styled.
Woulda loved to had seen the vehicle though!
Were you impressed?

My encounter was brief (with the gf in tow) and it was in the same room as the 36 x 15s from VIBE audio... I stuck my head in for a quick listen and it was definitley loud (every door was open) but they did have a vehicle there, which is more than I could say for a lot of other companies... I am by no means a kicker guy anyway... I guess its too bad they looked all transformer like before the actual movie came out
