Buildin another box :)

I am like 1/3 of the way done building the box that will house my Image Dynamics IDQ 15" along with the amp mount for my two infinity amps. I've drawn up like 5 billion different box setups for the Aveo and finally chose one. The box is 1.25 cubic feet sealed. The amps will be sitting at an angle, check the picture (I had to use paint shop cuz I am on our old computer so the pic is nothing special).
My questions: Screwing sucks, lol. I think all the top dog box builders use nailguns and I finally have access to one so I am going to give it a whirl. What size of nail should I use? Since nails don't have as much holding power as screws I assume I have to use alot more, possibly an inch between each nail? Is there any other important info I should know before I start nailin away? Thanx a lot guys. |
Size isn,t as important when using nails as glue is . Use glue , lots of it , or your box will come apart . Besides that any finishing nail long enough to get at least a half inch into the bottom panel should do .............I would just use screws .

Thanx a lot guys. i too would just use screws and do not be cheep on the glue you can clean it up ,if you do not have glue it will not be a sealed box drill the hole 1st then screw 3o/c |
Use glue and clamps.

I used 1 1/2 inch nails on mine, but just to make sure i used wood glue between all the seams and sealed it with silicone. Good luck!

carpenters methods are best!
I always use ONLY glue and brads nails..my rule of thumb is: use a nail double the thickness of your wood..if using 3/4" wood use 1.5" nails dont be cheap like the other guys said... lots of glue..if it doesnt come out the side...you didnt use enough! and if your cuts are good you will not need to use silicone inside the nails are only there to hold the wood inplace till the glue dries! |
Hey man, I just built my first box with a nail gun a couple weeks ago. Went great, used 1 1/2" nails, just lather the glue on and go to town. The nice thing is that since I use a stupid amount of glue, I always ending up wiping the hell of the outside of the box, but get a great seal on the inside.
