Cool Decisions Decisons

Hey Guys I have a 2002 pt cruiser and I want to put in some thump! But here is the catch. I have to be ablr to put it on the shelf at the top sometimes due to the family needs. I.e Shopping and trips. I am a big advocate of one 12 is plenty if you put in a good box but 2 will work also as long as i can put it on the shelf. I looked at 2 boxes by memphis audio the 2 10" and the 2 12" truch box (wedge) they both fit and i wondered if they woild be good if so the 12's are .91 sealed what subs do you guys recomend. Or can some one point me to some pt pics so i can see what else is being done.
Thanks in advance
Warped

If room is a concern, I think 1 well setup 12" will get the job done. Not only to save you room, but possibly the hastle of moving the box around.

So you want to put it on that shelf there...

For starters, my first concerns would be safety and theft.

I think I would do something like this.

I'd use a single 12" sub, sealed. And a decent amplifier. The 'box' the sub and amp are in is one piece, with a wall to seal off the woofer. I'd have slots cut into the amp side of the enclosure to allow for some air circulation. I'd make a frame that would sit on top of the box, and stretch the black material used on most home theatre speakers. I'm not sure if your windows are tinted or not... But I'd want to keep things really plain.

Here's images of design elements I'd implement.

I have no idea how portable you want this thing to be? Perhaps this won't work at all. With a few tweaks though, I don't think it'd be that hard to make something that can be "unplugged" and removed. Just going to cost more money.

But you're American, you pay a lot less for the audio equipment then we do. lol

put 2 12" slim subs in a dam thin box behind the rear seat. you would use prob like 6" or less TOPS. cause what im thinking is that the shelf wont hold for to long. might but i see it warping.

something to think about possible warp of the shelf of sacrefice 6" or the trunk

He could always reinforce the bottom of that shelf. Screw in a couple flat steel bars, an inch wide and an 1/4" inch thick or something...

Shallow mount subs would work. But they're also more expensive than regular woofers with similar output. It's up to this gentlemen to decide what would work best for him. Personally, I'd buy a better 12" sub, and very good amp, as opposed to two lesser subs. I don't imagine he wants a copious amount of bass, it is a family vehicle and all.

I suggest two 10" RF P3 Shallow Mount woofers on around 800rms and i promise you it will get silly loud. and they need like a 1 cubic foot sealed enclosure (.5 cubes each)

iiissshhhhh bazooka and infinity basslink II would be better at this point lol.

the mtx slim sounds good too. theres also the soundstream slim that is onily 2 inch thick and work in .5cf box. the box would be 4 inch deep and its a 12" sub too

many others too tho. but id stay away from the punch series subs. ( the sound reproduction is off lol i find anyway )

All depends on what you want. Personally, If I needed space on occasion, I'd build an all in one box/amp combo with quick connects and handles. A single 12", 500 watt sub, with one of these new, tiny, class D sub amps built in like a home theatre sub. Use some 4 awg quick connects and a molex plug, and in 1 minute it's in or out of the car! Cost would be a little higher...600.00 or so, but it'll **** for sure, and sound awesome!!! or....hide the amp under a seat, and just build a box with handles and a quick connect plug.

Most people put the audio gear under the shelf and then put groceries and stuff on top. In my HHR it actually sounds better that way too.
