Does port rario make a difference?

Im currently in the process of building a slot port box (didn't like the sound of my sealed .75 cu box, but im sellin that) and I was wondering if the ratio between height and width makes a difference? My port is going to be 1"x12". From my understanding, the air might slow down due cuz of the thinness(sp?) of the port, and actually tune the box lower. Does the 1:9 ratio make a difference in port tunings, is it that bad?

yes; it does... for example using a square port with the same area as a 12x1 port should almost cut drag in half!

Id try to go a little wider then 1" !

Agreed. I try to not exceed 6:1 and never less than 1.5" in width.

Thanks for the quick replies. I've decided to make a 3x4" port instead, so that will cut down on the drag. I have access to a router, do you think i should flare the opening of the port? will it make any noticeable difference?

flaring may increase the output.
that's what i've seen spl guys do to their boxes, make flares.

if u don't have anything better to do, sure. I wouldn't probably bother.

If you are going to make a 3x4 vent (12 sqin) I would suggest simply using 4" diameter pipe (12.6 sqin) as it is usually easier.
