I have the weekend off and was hoping to build a box for the gti that i got like 3 weeks ago. i want to go ported and it will be going into a 02 accord. i havent built or designed a box before so i was wondering if i could get a little help with the design part of it

 

Dimensions would help, as well as the car being used

 

I'm out of town right now without my vehicle. Guessing at the dimensions though I would say no taller than 17" and probably no wider than 32" depth could be whatever. And its going in the trunk of a 2002 honda accord coupe

 

16.5" high and 36" length are the actual max dimensions and i wouldnt be able to have a port on the side with that length

 

jbl recommends a 2.25 ft3 box with a 4" port 13.31" long with 1" fiberfill along all walls and that includes all displacement so I think Im going to try and build it this weekend since i have some free time again these the are the dimensions i was going to use since I wanted the port and woofer both firing the same direction it is pretty deep...20.375"W x 15.25"H x 18"D with 1"MDF says i should get 2.25434 ft3 does that sound like it will work or does anybody have any other suggestions?

 

I would forego the 1" MDF and use 3/4" with some bracing. You'll be farther ahead.

As long as that box will fit in the space, AND fit through the trunk opening, I would go for it.

 

with 3/4" would you recommend double baffle on the front? the woofer would be flush with the box also if i had a double baffle and had a larger hole on the outer one. I read for a round port the port opening should be at least that far away from any obstructions inside the box is this true?

 

Sure double up the baffle, it won't hurt and flush is dope! Make this box even easier and see if anyone on the board has any 4 inch aeroports for sale... a 10 foot length of sewer pipe and you'll be good for life...

 

thats what i was going to do or see if my local shop haad some aeroports....with a 4x8 sheet i should have enough to build a sealed box too so i was thinking of running it sealed in my car for a bit until i could get some aeroports so that my ported box is bult right and doesn't sound like crap

 

A diameter away from the woofer and any walls is ideal. And for sure use an Aeroport.
