Hoping I can get a little direction here...
 
I ended up purchasing a bunch of equipment for a project car that never got installed and now I've sold the car. Kind of tired of looking at everything sitting on my garage shelf and no one around me is interested in paying a reasonable price for it so I've decided to upgrade the factory system in my sons truck with it. Problem is, I'm trying to stick a Sundown Audio SA-8 in a 03 regular cab Ranger truck now. I can find nothing premade that both will fit behind the seat and give the sub the proper dimensions.

I built a few sub boxes when I was younger for my high school systems but always had room to work with and never paid much attention to volumes...this will be my first "technical" box I've attempted and I want to get it right.

Can y'all point me in the right direction for me to start researching what I'll need to learn to make this happen?


The components I will be installing are the SA 8, 4 Infinity Primus 6.75's, and a Pioneer GM-D9605 amp to push it all. I'm shopping around to figure out what head unit I want to install, and have a Clarion EQS755 equalizer to install also if needed.

The recommended box is pretty small, 0.75 cuft for vented. Figure out how it will fit, 0.75 cuft needs either 1 port 3" in diameter by 18.75" long, or if length is a problem, use 2 ports 1.5" in diameter (inside diameter) by 9.5" long each(probably easier to fit in a small box). This will tune to 35hz, and given rated power or a reasonable amount will perform. Remember to calculate the displacement of the ports and sub in your .75 cuft net internal volume for the sub box. Basically, 0.75cuft+0.1942 cuft (2 ports)+ .08 cuft (sub)=1.0242 cuft gross internal volume. I used winisd to calculate this, link:

Sorry bro. yes, diameter of 1.5" (inside) x 9.5" long...the gross box should be 0.849 cuft....0.75 + 0.01942 (not 0.1942)+ .08= 0.85 cuft. Damn decimal places will get you everytime. Port displacement is (Pi (3.1415) R^2 (.75 squared) x length (9.5) x 2 ports)/1728= .01942 cuft (I know the tube's outside diameter is a little larger, but it's negligible in the calculation).

Keep in mind this is just one possibility. Depending on the dimensions available to you, the vents could be larger (but longer), or you may be able to do a single vent. It really comes down to what dimensions can work in your install. I find for smaller boxes the round ports are easier to implement and adjust if needed, slot ports can be much harder to correct if you mess up, or want to change tuning frequency.
