kick panels
 

Hi i have a 1988 chevy c1500 single cab and was wondering if anyone has any experience in making fiberglass kick panels??? i would like too but dont know where to start

looking to put a set of 6 1/2" components

They require a lot of work/sanding to look nice... you can figure out the aiming by placing towels down there and trying the speakers at different angles.

If you decide against making them, take a look at Q-form (Qlogic) kick panels and just reinforce the back of them with fiberglass.

not that tough to do just time consuming. need to carefully cover entire area with plastic to prevent any fiberglass /resin from getting on vehicle...that is the most important step! then glass the back/botom of enclosure...make a little oversize is great its easy to cut nicely to size later...once that is done cut a front baffle out of mdf and mount yer speakers in..then mount the baffle to the rear "shell" with plumbers strap at roughly the right angle/placement (aprox.aimed at center roof to aprox. oposite side window) then all you do is wrap the open area with towels listen and play a bit with the aim....once yer happy..or at least not unhappy then pull them out trim the shell to match with baffle and glass in the open area..then body fill and sand...if you dont want to spend the rest of yer life sanding it perfect just cover in carpet of othe fabric ...

... then after six months take a look at your speaker grills and you will realize why they are called "kick" panels. I will never use them again. Even after warning passengers, someone always kicks them. Plus, with a passenger the sound is muffled by their legs anyways.

In kicks 6 1/2 s may be a little large unless you can build real big kicks...5 1/4s are a better choise....not enough air space for the driver it wont sound good..

ok thanks guys yea i might go with 5 1/4 but its an ol chevy so that about the only other place to put speakers wiithout any other huge modifications
