Metal boxes?
I think i know the answer to this but i will still ask.
Do people not build boxes out of lets say 1/8" or 1/4" thick stainless steel because of the magnet on the sub? or simply because it costs alot more and not alot of people know how to weld? |

why stainless steel ?
why not steel ? |
Stainless isnt magnetic so why would that have anything to do with, well anything? The biggest reason is cost and peoples abilities to make it themselves. In fact right before i got wacked i was in the process of building one for world finals, but that was brough to an end quickly.

lolzzz^^^, Your box will tend to be more efficient also.... there wouldnt be any flex what so ever and I think you would get a more harder hittin bass than a normal mdf box.

Stainless steel is hard to weld..its like sheet metal. Its thin and is galvanized.
|
Stainless isnt galvanized. Plus a steel box still needs to be 3/4-1" thick to make it work properly.
|
just my 2 cents... but wouldn't it sound a lil like a tin can?
|
Expensive, harder to make, very heavy, would need to be very thick to not flex. you'd have to deaden it too I think to prevent resonance if it's a SQ box.
I'd love to do a SQ enclosure out of 1" corian tho... |
