Most expensive MDF box ever!!

Well, I got the new box put together except the double baffle and bracing, cut the sub holes out and glass'd the inside. I had a few corner pieces split:dunno: but its sealed. I guess I'll have to bring the belt sander out and make things flush again.
Since I don't have the ports yet, I didn't cut for them...:ohwell:

So what makes this soooo expensive??

Well, my glasses slipped off my face and into the resin, didn't get much on them, but I had my lady clean them. Without thinking much :eyes: I said " just use that!!"

Well " that" was acetone, f*^%ed my glasses up royally!!

So about a $130 for the MDF, resin, screws, and a new blade for the table saw.
Great price for a custom box!!
But adding $450 dollars for the new glasses makes this box " a keeper "... lmao and crying

1st ported box build is turning out REAL fun...Dang thing better sound AWESOME!!!!!
A few pics..

130 bux sounds like a bit too much

you know u can just get the lenses replaced, right?

I bought the MDF as seperate pieces from Home depot. So it cost me a bit more . Mostly because my table saw is just a little one, and since I moved, I haven't made a table to cut full sheets on. The blade was a "good" one for $45 .. I'm a poor shopper, I know...

the glasses- Maybe, those are $1 frames from dollarstore sunglasses..:smilie_da great replacment frames...
I'm not sure if the person cutting the lenses need the exact measurements of the frames to cut the glass? Usually they have a list of the measurements for the individual frames that they sell. But they don't sell these frames, sooo???

Guess I should ask, what a rip

Sheeeet! Personally I don't wear my nice glasses when workign outside the office. I was worried about getting them scratched, but you took it to a whole new level. :)

Try dropping ur lenses in acetone for an hour. Since u need new ones anyway may as well try.

1. Contact lenses.

2. Real glass lenses. I always get real glass and I have a wicked strong prescription.

looks good... but a little advice... if u screw your boxes together always use lots of glue on the joints and do not put screws within 2-3 inches of the end of the baffle or it will split making it weak... best route is brad nails with a good quality carpenters glue and clamp till dry

The lenses are basically 90% of the cost.

I spent 1200.00 dollars about 6 years ago for laser eye correction (20:15 corrected) which has more than paid for itself in prescription lenses...especially since I'm notorious for losing or crushing them. Easily the best money i've spent!

Thanks..I'll take that advice with the next one!! The screws near the ends really messed things up, lotsa glue though. I hope the 'glass will make the seal strong enough, I'll do the outside too when it's flush , port holes cut etc..
I did a really sad job if you knew my work history:eyes:

So far I'd say the biggest mistake was NOT pre-drilling thoroughly but I'm good with it so far.

Had a heck of an afternoon blind!! Thank gosh for 1 hours glasses!! Even got them for cheaper than I was quoted. I got a new frame too, just so I could qualify for insurance...lol Still too much though:sly:
For reference, at Pearle the frame and lenses cost about equal, if you get the cheaper frames. Some frames are priced$$$$$$

Anyhow, ports maaay come in this week.:smilie_da
The box is bigger than I had first hoped, remeasured the van and tweaked a few placments and voila!! almost exactly 7 cubes gross... I'm stoked
