need help building ported box for my alpine type r
 

hello, im a newbie when it comes to subwoofer enclosurez. i was woundering if you guys would be nice enough to take the time and explain to me the dementions you reccomend i use for a ported box. but also if you could help me understand how you get that. im not very knowledgable on the some terms that are used. i have had a few systems but i want to make my own box for this subwoofer. it is a 10" alpine type r 2 olhm. thanks for tKing the time in reading this!

well lets see.. what model number exactly do you have? Have you downloaed the data sheet from alpine? What does alpine recommend for a ported box? things like:
external box dimensions
Gross internal volume
vent area (dimensions)
vent length
vent displacement
net internal volume

so.. there you have it.. using 3/4 inch MDF build a box with external dimensions 12.5" x 14.5" x17.25"

with a vent port that is 11 square inches. that could be using a round vent (3 3/4 inch diameter) or square. it is high school math.. make the port 22 inches long.

Are you looking for like step by step instructions with every single detail? Perhaps someone else is willing to do that for you. I think you should put a little effort into it yourself.

no im not asking for step by step instruxtions. but perhaps you can explain how to tune it to the frequency i want.though. i most ly listen to like hip hop. rock. rap. i like alot of heavey deep bass! im pretty handy with doing stuff but when i dont understNd things i ask around to and it may come off as being lazy but im not. thank you for the help though!
also when u say to.make.the vent lenght 22 long. that includes the 90shit degree angle for the vent to wrap around right. also the subwoofer hole doesnt have to be in a specidic place right.
as for the demensions. it goes length. width. height. correct?
so the box is going to be 12.5" long in the front. 14.5"long deep towards the back. and have a height of 17.25? that seems like an akward box

I suggest you read up on loudspeaker design first. Educate yourself.
A good speaker design software is WinISDPro google it and download. read the instructions and help in order to enter your own T/S parameters from the Alpine sheet.

My concern is that if you have not done the basic research to understand, then why do you think you are qualified to decide what frequency to tune it at?

i want to know the width of the vent opening to tune it to 31hz

that software does not have my subwoofer on it. and i cannot find all the specs for the subwoofer tbat the software is asking for

Yknow not everyone is as smart when it comes to certain things. The guy is asking for help, and for a lot of people admitting they don't understand certain things the same as what may be extremely simple for others is quite difficult. Which in turn usually leads to people not bothering to even ask or learn in the end because of the lack of help. I thought this was supposed to be a helpful forum ? If not for help it's awfully damn quiet, what else is it supposed to be ?

Simply stating you need to step aside and take a look at the situation and remember what may be incredibly easy to some, can be incredibly difficult for others. I give props for him asking for help let alone to keep at it, most would've given up after your 2nd response.
