Why not use the manufacture recommended enclosure size?

Manufacturer recommended box sizes are just that, recomendations. I have never built a box to their specs, only my own. If you want it loud you need it ported, and tuned to your car resonant frequency. Then all it comes down to is trail and error. Every SPLer will tell you that you will go through about 40 different boxes before finding what works the best. Just ask Livin Loud. LOL.

Anyway good luck, and you had better start building soon!

You're making a pretty big assumption that he's going for SPL.

He bought a XXX and is running it off of a Zapco amp. I'm guessing it's more of an SQ thing he wants.

In which case he does NOT want a box ported to his car frequency.

He'll want something tuned to 35-38hz and in the manuf's recommended size enclosure

RE recommend 2 cubes sealed, 4 cubes ported, tuned to 27hz, to give you a baseline. The XXX come standard with dual 2 ohm coils, did you get it with dual 1 ohm coils instead? I ran the numbers through Bassbox, 2 cubic feet sealed, with a fair amount of polyfill stuffing, gives a Qtc of 1.08.

The RE recommended ported enclosure Jeepbeats stated is a very good enclosure with this driver for daily listening with your amp. It will sound very good, go low, and get loud enough for daily.

For sealed applications with your power you want to keep the box at 2 cubes or even 1.6. It works much better in smaller enclosures when sealed.

Thanks all, I have ample amount of space to wrk with. I want more of SQ than SPL, and i am not sure what SQL is. This is my first time doing a car setup. The dimension RE people sent me were both ported. One at 4ft@30hz(SQ) and the other at 6ft@35hz(SQL). I understand if its for SQ, then it should be sealed right? Can anyone give me dimensions on a sealed box? Or should i just go with RE's dimensions

SQL= Sound quality with the ability to play loud, a combination of SQ and SPL.

Depending on the enclosure, the SQ can be just as good with a ported enclosure as with a sealed.

The 4 cube ported design RE gave you will have excellent SQ.
