Pics of MAW-15 Box...

1 Attachment(s)
Well I've invested a substantial 8 hours into the box for my 4 15" Maw's, taking my time doing everything, and making sure everything is good and strong. Here is some pics of the monster, its 90% done, carpeting and glueing the last piece on tomorrow...

Went with 3/4" MDF, 7.5" Sonotube ports, and I have 2 of the 4 15"s in my possession...

How many braces you have in the box?

creed 05-15-2007 12:36 AM

i see single layer.. i would atleast double up that woofer baffle

Toddyboy 05-15-2007 06:16 AM

ya man double that baffle for sure but let us know how she sounds

FusionMadsen 05-15-2007 09:30 AM

There is one brace going vertically dead center. Its a 2x2" piece of solid oak...

I will see how it sounds first, but throughout the build I have been considering the double baffle for the top since its so thin at parts, and since you guys agree I just might.

Mach 5 05-15-2007 10:13 AM

Looks pretty serious. I would be most interested in your interpretation of the sound..

Jboy2 05-15-2007 10:32 AM

Looks nice, but i agree with the other members about a double baffle. All i can picture is box flex. :eyes:

Sorry, come again?

On topic, make sure she's thoroughly braced and it should be a ball of fun.

Sarcasm doesn't translate very well over the internet.

FusionMadsen 05-15-2007 08:08 PM

I may go smaller ports a bit later, first I gotta see what these ones sound like... Will probably double baffle.

I believe Prolifik was being sarcastic...

FusionMadsen 05-15-2007 09:54 PM

Lol, is that a good thing or bad thing...

Braces , and double baffle it.

FusionMadsen 05-15-2007 10:00 PM

Hmmmmm... Iron rods eh, how do I get those in though, like do they just go through one side into the box and into the other?

Jboy2 05-15-2007 10:01 PM

Yep... Did this on many boxes.. Works Great :)

FusionMadsen 05-15-2007 10:04 PM

Ok, how many should I use? and what diameter rod, I can see this being a very, very good bracing method...

Jboy2 05-15-2007 10:10 PM

I would use 1/2-3/4 threaded rod, and just do it where ever you want. ( i usually do in the middle of each MDF board.... So a total of 3 threaded rods.)

FusionMadsen 05-15-2007 10:12 PM

You mean like one length, one width, and one height wise? I already got the oak brace for vertical, I might just use the ones for length and width, also, how the hell do you drill those in...

Well do one for length and width. I install them by drilling a hole the size of the rod through the box, slide the rod through, and to seal it for leak i use silicone and washers, and to tighten the brace use a bolt at the ends.

To seal it i use silicone then a washer over the silicone which creates a tight seal.(on both sides... ie outside and inside of the box)

Hope this helps

FusionMadsen 05-15-2007 10:22 PM

Awesome, I understand now, I thought you just mashed the rod in, and I was like "what the **** is the point in that", but the nuts make sense lol.

DesolataX 05-15-2007 10:23 PM

You need a lot more braces in there... Double baffle would be good too.

LMAO

No Problem bud. Glad to help out a fellow CCA member :)

Viperoni 05-15-2007 10:27 PM

I would also run triangular shaped pieces of 3/4" plywood as braces, one in each space between a pair of drivers to help brace the front baffle to the sides.
Also, do something that'll brace the bottom to the sides as well.

3/4" MDF with no bracing is horribly insufficient for that size of a box.

I didnt have massively huge panels in my 2x MJ18 box, but that thing noticeably vibrated when cranked, and I had a solid 7/8" particle board divider between the two sides.

Creamedweasel 05-15-2007 11:08 PM

Here is wonderful link on how to sufficiently brace your box.

Prolifik 05-16-2007 01:11 AM

i wasnt being sarcastic. u will have alot of porn noise/wind.

Here's a link to the pictures of the bracing I put in the wall in the Hearse. IMO it's a decent job. Wall Build
