Stainless Steel boxes...

Seriously, ive searched around, and the information i have found has lead me to the conclusion of: People do not ever use them because they are harder to make, more expensive, heavier and usually ugly.

Its probably asked somewhat often, but i jsut do not understand why very few people do it? Are there more reasons than that? My understanding that when making a sealed box, the important aspects are stiffness, size and the fact that its sealed properly... im just confused. any help would be greatly appreciated.

bin there done that.......
steel is not acoustically dead and makes a horrible
sounding enclosure..nuff said

Oh, so no matter how well it is braced, it will still move somewhat then?

just my opinion, but anything is possible. i have seen pics of aluminim sub enclosures 1/4" thick i believe, rolled to a cylinder.however stainless is quite a bit heavier. i dont know anything about resonant frequency or whether or not it sounds good. if you can try it try it.

There is another thread on here somewhere, where this topic was covered once before. I know of MANY people who have made metal COVERS for there enclosures, but none that are solid metal. The weight issue would make me more then iffy compared to mdf enclosures.
And As SubSonic mentioned they aren't accoustically sound(this guy knows his boxes, so I take his word)

IIght, thanks. I was only wondering because i have acesss to lots of the stuff, and the tools and skills to do it up, and just wanted to know if it would be a waste of my time. Thanks!

Check out the thread that says ss1-2 build with steel. Then you add sheets of mdf over the steel.
