Subwoofer Placement

In a sub install manual I read that you shouldnt have a thick surface between the sub and the rest of the car. It said use:

-An open middle back seat armrest with hole

-A hole in the parcel tray with the sub facing upwards (could be an old speaker hole).

However I've never seen someone do that before, how important do you think this is?

People just have their sub facing outwards.

must be a small sub maybe a bass tube?
just curious where you got this info

just a random manual for a sub, maybe a kenwood one, I downloaded the pdf.

well the idea with that is to remove any obsitcale the sub will have to transfer sound.

This is definately something to experiment with. I went with a small sub for a stealth enclosure in my old Jetta. Those VW back seats are far too good at blocking sound from the trunk. Needed a LOT more boom to hear in the rest of the car. Which is just part of the reason I went with a hatch when I got a new car to replace the Jetta :p

Yea i'm planning on taking my time building a speaker box to go into my 91 olds cutlass supr. , and it has one of those pull down arm rests, I had the idea of building a box, but have the port hole (rectangular) to fit the exact size of the armrest pulldown, which isn't that big...

I was hoping somebody else would have a similar install to be able to give me pointers.. I'll only have enough cash for one sub, and i'm i'm pretty sure, i'll be able to make a box fit nicely, I just don't know where to start with subs and specs in relation to sub box size..:sly: But reading through here , I'm sure i'l learn alot..

imma just keep readin on then lol.. :)
