Two 10" Type R -- spec says .6 cubes -- too small?
Have two subs, shopping for a sealed enclosure.
Here's the sub specs: Nominal Impedance: 2 ohms + 2 ohms Frequency Response: 24-600Hz Sensitivity: 83Db DC Coil Resistance: 1.85 ohms + 1.85 ohms Inductance (LE) 1kHz/20kHz: 2.48 mH/1.06mH More on it could be found here: http://vault.alpine-usa.com/products/documents/OM_SWR-1242D.PDF Here's the enclosure dimensions according to Alpine: Mounting Depth: 172mm (6.8”) Mounting Diameter: 231mm (9.1”) Mounting Displacement: 0.05ft3 Sealed Box Volume Range: 0.5 – 0.8 ft3 Sealed box External Dimensions: 11.5 x 11.5 x 12.75” Gross Internal Volume: 0.65ft3 Net Internal volume: 0.6ft3 F3: 49Hz QTc: 0.65 But a shop has now told me that those subs need more room than the .6 cubes per sub. They recommend something closer to a full cubic foot per sub. Before I take that advice, does anyone here buy that? Has anyone tried the Alpine recomended enclosure and then something else to compare? |
They work ok in .6, but much better in .8-1.0 cubes. If you need them in a small box then add about 1/2-3/4 pounds of polyfill for each sub...that will give you a virtual volume that is about 20-25% more. I've had the 12 in a 1.0 cube sealed (with 1 pound polyfill) box and it sounded very good...really tight, clean bass, and got more than low enough for music (could play tocata in d minor easily and shake the whole car).

^^oh yeah, type r 10's in .8 sealed with 1/2 pound poly will sound great! Try it with and without the polyfill...it'll sound good either way, i just think poly helps to smooth out the bass a little more and give a little more extension down low.
