Post What size box for a 15" Focal Utopia 38WX Sub

I'm getting one 15" Focal Utopia 38WX and I was wondering what box size to run. I'm going to go ported but I'm not sure what to tune it too. Can anyone give me any guidance? Thanks.

The suggested alignments for this sub are here: http://www.focal.tm.fr/gb/instal/ima...butopia_gb.pdf

The 60L one seems to model up OK.. looks like a 35-38hz tuning.

Thanks David...but what do you mean by "model up ok"? I think I have a lot of reading to do

Wow, I can't believe that going from the 13" (33WX)to the 15" (38WX) Focal recommends twice the size box!

What diameter port do I need? and where can I get flared ports?

Is it better to point the sub forward or backawards with a ported box?...or does it really matter?

When i quickly plugged focals recommended enclosures into WinISD, the 60L one seemed to have the better response.

They recommended 1: 9.6cm port, 20cm's long.. 9.6cm's is 4"s..

for a 4" flared port i recommend the Precision sound ports. Heres a link: http://www.creativesound.ca/details.php?model=4FP CSS is a canadian dealer.

Hey, Interested in a white ZPA .5?

haha, you offered me that white ZPA about a year ago. I was leaning more towars a Zapco 9.0

Looking at the picture in the PDF file you sent the link to above, could I put the sub on other side of the box? You know, on the flat side, not the tilted side. That way the box would tuck in agianst the back of my seat nicely. Will this effect the sound in any way?

You should be able to do that yeah.. Just leave some space between the sub and the rear seat..

No I want the sub magnet inverted and sticking out into the trunk, so that means the "tilted part" of the box would lean up against the back of the seat. Therefore, the sub would be perpendicular to the trunk floor....that's ok right?

Yeah thats fine.. Just take into account that there is no longer any driver displacement inside of the enclosure..
