what type of saw(s) to use for box building?

You can do everything you need with a jigsaw.
Now if you want to get into some precision and speed then you need to look at adding at least a circular saw, and then again with the addition of a table saw. At this point you should add a router too for holes.

I have to agree allthough with some practice you can get a very straight cut with a sircular saw, I use them all the time but you will always get a straighter cut and better seal with a table saw.
it is good to have an extra person there to help support the MDF as your running it through the table saw though.

or you can just get home depot or rona to cut it for you. Last time I was there, the first five cuts are free, then 50 cents per cut after that. If it's a simple box get them to do it. All you have to do is figure out the cuts on a piece of paper in order to minimize the number of cuts.

Use a chain saw LOL. I use a circular saw, also known as a skilsaw (the ones with a laser guide are nice to keep the lines str8) and a jig to cut out my speaker hole/s.
