07 Toyota Tacoma Build

My factory setup is 6x9/tweeter fd and 6.5 rd. I'm going to uprgrade my head unit first and then replace front door speakers. I'm confused now when it come to replacing my front door speakers. I'm leaning towards 6.5 components or possibly a 6.5 mid driver(whats the difference). I was set on the Infinity Kappa but checked the reveiws on Energy and couldn't believe the ratings. I heard the Energy 6.5 componets and found them to bright for my liking even with the lowest crossover setting. Not enough mid bass. Then heard the Alpine SPS 600C and couldn't believe the difference. First off they have a lower db rating and they are cheaper in price. I found the tweet not to bright with a good mid range bass. I was set on these until someone mention the Polk Audio db6501 and Hifonics Zeus ZXi 6.5C. Specs look promising with amazing reviews but haven't heard them yet.

I'm looking at spending between $80.00 - $150.00 tax in. Looking for something with a nice tweet thats not so high pitch and a good mid bass driver Also plan on replacing the rears and running 12" sub all being amplified.

Any input for a newbie????????

ummm, when picking out speakers rom retail as im asuming you are keep in mind that the car audio display walls sound way different when there up there then in your car, weather its better or worse. in almost all cases they sound better in y0ur car becausethe decks amps and sppeakers they display are all generaly tuned. they have to make it so that the lil 20$ 4 inch pioneer sound just as good as the 500$ set of kappa peects or somthing right,? another reasen they sound different is because o the area, big room where all youor sound travels much differently..

well 6.5" components would consist of a 6.5" mid, and a tweeter to accompany it.
just a mid driver would indicate you are buying the 6.5" alone without the tweeter or crossover.

first thing i would do is venture to some car audio shops. not just best buy/futureshop.

you are in hamilton, so this shouldn't be hard to do.
driving a truck, you aren't going to need alot of rear fill. in my opinion, spend twice as much on yours fronts and forget the rears.
check out some hertz and audison stuff for speaker lines.

remember, just as important as your choice of speakers is the install.
proper dampening and sealing of your door will do more for your sound than almost anything.

My suggestion, save up a little more cake and step up big time in speakers. If you are going to do it, do it once and do it right. Keep it simple in the rear, a 6.5" coax is all you need in the rear. Up front you have the option of a 6x9" component speaker or a 6.75" component speaker. You are going to be adding an amp in the future, that is great as it will bring the system to life.

I ran a nice front stage in my gti, 6.5 as fillers and 3 10" subs. I prefer to have the sound all around me.
