1 wire two amps?
hey guys,
i have a question regarding the installation of amps, and wire from the battery.... Im changing the stereo in my chevy silverado 1500, and picked up an Infinnity Baselink T, that has a built in amp, and i will be installing a 4 channel amp to run my speakers (Infinity door and rear pillar speakers), prolly a 600 watt wallmart Dual XPA4100, as there cheap, and seem to have good reviews, and should be good enough. anyways, its hard enough to get a small wire through the firewall of the truck, and im wondering if i have to run two separate runs of 4 ga. wire to the amps, or if i can run one to the rear of my truck, then use a distribution block to run two smaller runs, one to each amp? fused of course. thanks again guys, as my install is getting closer, as i have to wait till christmas anyways for my door/pillar speakers. ginnz. |

One run of 4ga is plenty for the power you are looking at. Use a fused distribution block like this one:

thanks,
i actually just got back from the audio place, got exactly what i need for 2 amps. now just gotta get the speakers, some wire, and the 4 channel amp. almost there ;-) |
Since you have a hard time at the firewall, buy a longer than usually drill bit, for starting pilot holes and a step drillbit for enlarging them. Works like a charm.

Thanks for the reply!
I actually got my main amp ran this afternoon at my dads.... we ran it right alongside the 12v switched wire i ran. there is a rubber "boot" around the steering column, we ran both of them through this boot.... there isnt alot of options to run a cable through the firewall on these things! crazy! anyways, now i'll wait for christmas to get the four infinity speakers, then i'll run to walmart and pick up a Dual 600w 4ch amp, and speaker wire, then ill goto a buddy's heated shop and take the seats out and do the rest of the install. im thinking it'll take a day. i mounted my Infinity basslink T sub to the rear wall of the truck yesterday. the headunit is in, and is powered for now, but no sound ;-( GPS works awsome on this thing with iGo GPS software installed! the more i check the unit out, the more i like it! for 200 bucks i'll say it id ONE HELL OF A GOOD DEAL. (Innovatek W72GPS), as long as it lasts a couple of years, i'll be happy. I can go on the internet with it, download music right to it, video is pretty good, can hook a hardrive up to it, use a usb stick, bluetooth works awesome with my iP4, and works with a back-up camera.... im a computer "guy", and it really suits my needs! before i found this thing, i was gonna build a mini car PC based on a 7" touchscreen i have laying around, but this thing does all i wanted it to do, and i couldnt have built something for that price! i cant wait for all the rest of my components. |
