I've ran 10's,12's and 15's I always go back to 12's. They seem to work best in my application, so 12's are ideal for me. [img]graemlins/thumb.gif[/img]

The size of the sub is not going to dictate it's transient response.

If you like that punchy/snap sensation look at your midbass.

Measurements dictate the driver size for me. If the install calls for the driver to fire forward or back then the trunk has to be tall enough for the sub. Same with width. I also need enough airspace for the driver to work to its full potential.

I like to have a lot of bass on tap.
Once I've figured out how big physically of a driver I can fit I will calculate airspace. Then I will take the optimal box sizes and find the best possible option to get the most Sd.
Say I have 5cu.ft. of net airspace and I can only fit 10's or 12's in the install. Out of the driver's I'm using in that car the 10's work well with 1.0 and the 12's with 2.5cu.ft.
so in this car I could go with four 10's or two 12's.

Of course price and power comes into effect also but you get the idea.

I've always been a fan of a 12 myself... it's a comprimise between the 10 and the 15...

I've bounced back and forth, and I am more of a 10" woofer fan then anything, granted I have 12" Eclipse now but that's used as my powerd sub for surround sound.

But have to make sure you get into something that can play down to match in with it or you'll have a nice hole in the frequency spectrum.

 

I have to disagree with you people that think that the size of the sub will not affect transient response .

When you think about it, why have home speaker manufacturers opted for multiple small woofers as opposed to larger ones? No, not for a smaller footprint because of the "Wife factor".
