10" to 12" big diffrence?

Right know i have 2 10" infinity kappa perfect...powered by MRD-M1001 really happy whit them but i saw a local guy selling 2 12" (infinity kappa also) for really cheap...150 for the subs and sealed box. He says he purchased them in november and dint abuse the subs (but u never know could be bullshiting me) Anyways my 2 10" are in a vented box that i got a futur shop. I am wondering if it would be worth it selling my 2 10" for the 12"...will i see the diffrence...or not really? they have same spec...only diffrence is that one is that from 10" whit vented box to 12" whit ported...which one will sound better?

The only thing bothering me is that i have a 4 year warranty on subs... so if i buy the 12 i wont have one anymore...

Anyways would want to know what u guys would do...
thx Olivier

I see a few key items on why to keep your 10's:

1) you like how they sound
2) 4 yr. warranty
3) ported box

Keep your 10's and maybe get the 12's and box and sell them for $250, and pocket the cash. $150 is awfully cheap for those subs with a box only a few months old. I'd be suspect. Listen to them first.

yeah i thaught about that... seems to good to be true... i guess i could do that buy them to sell them.. but for sound quality and loudness woul i hear a diffrence whit the 12 compare to the 10 even if same specs ect?.. i was maybe thinking of keeping the 12 selling my 10 and the box for 12 and then building a costum box would that be better or i am better off whit the 10 and selling the 12?

weren't this subs on sale for like 80 a piece at futureshop one day?
or was it the lower 1240 or whatever line.

If you like what you got, keep it. I would see that as a trade off for a little more loudness traded for SQ.

Are his Kappa Perfect's like yours or just Kappa's? The main difference between going from a 10" to a 12" is the 12" has a bit more low end response. The enclosure has to be tuned to take advantage of it though.

...

if your box is ported and his is sealed then yours will be louder most likely and you will be sorry to trade away for his. As for warrenty its basically a non issue because subwoofer warrenties only cover manufacturers defects and 99% of what goes wrong with a woofer they will consider due to "abuse" I would still keep your 10s though

AM*E*LL 04-09-2007 05:14 PM

yeah but its a future shop warrenty he has
they take anything back even if your sub is fried beyond fried they will take it back

Haunz 04-09-2007 06:09 PM

go for the 12s.... probably get better extention compared to some preflab POS box tuned to 40hz..... not to mention more cone area.... and the advantages with going sealed......

All else equal, Id really recommend taking the 12s and porting low.. but then again Id also recommend forgetting 12s and going to 18s....:D

Tough crowd......

Ya i know what sub you have i also know it has 0.5 ohm coils and i also know that i bought it direct from DD about 3 years ago.

Audiofool 04-10-2007 03:24 PM

lol getting a bit off topic but that fine:P to anwser the question the guy has the same subs as mine the kappa perfect.... still confuse in choice tho...wondering if i could possibly **** over FS... by bying the 12 and if they break bring them back for the warranty could be worth the try...they will take it prob and give me what on the receipt ... anyways i think i will keep the 10 cuz of the box i already have... get the 12 and try to sell it if not i will have 2 12" and maybe later build a costum box for them..either way i should be able to sell them one of these dayz... actualy this is giving me an idea...would it be possible to hook up 2 10" and 2 12" to get the best of both world...the low note whit the 12" and the clear whit the 10"...could this be done whit the MRD-M1001 or i would need an other amp? or is this idea just stupid?

Lol. Small world.

Hardwrkr 04-10-2007 08:09 PM

Run either the 10's or the 12's. Don't try to run both. The only way it will work advantageously is to run the 12's for ultra low frequencies and the 10's bandpassed to run the upper bass frequencies but this is more work and possible problems than most people want to deal with so don't bother.

Audiofool 04-10-2007 08:33 PM

alright then good to know... i guess the only reason why to buy them would be to sell them...so this is pretty tricky and risky ... but in the other hand its only 150$
