12'' Alpine Type R sub matched with an amp

Hey guys i am pretty new to the whole car audio scene but i just bought:

One Alpine 12'' Type R Sub
4 6.5'' JBL 40RMS each front and rear speakers

Now i am looking for a decent Amp to power the speakers and the amp. Which obviously means i am looking at a 4 channel amp to power everything. I want to buy something in the GTA area, mississauga, scarborough, even as far as hamilton if i have to. I do not want to spend too much. I want to audio to go and audio 2001 and they both had pretty good alpine and clarion amps for 400$ i want something a little cheaper but good enough so i get no distortion. If anyone knows any stores or anyone selling what i mentioned above please give me a shout. Thanks

Oskar

Are you looking to power all 4 speakers and the sub, if so that means you are after a 5 channel amp or a 4 channel + mono. Clarify exactly what it is you want to amplify here, front + sub, front + rear + sub etc.

For just a sub amp, I am using a Kenwood KAC-8152D which gives my Type R 550w @ 2 ohms and sounds great, I can't hear any distortion. I like the amp, but a buddy of mine feed his 700w daily and it sounds great, except for his box sucks. Crappy Bassworx box.

well i want to run the left side speakers front + back parallel to one channel, then the right side front + back parallel together to another channel and power the type R sub into another channel. That is the set up which i think will work best. One of the members on this forum offered me the Alpine MRD-M605 for 240$ used which is a mono amp and would only power my sub. If i went this route i want a very cheap 2 channel amp to power my speakers. Well not too cheap but something that wont cause any distortion. Sorry for not being very clear in the beginning.

The specs of the Sub are:

12" Subwoofer
1,500 WATTS TOTAL OUTPUT
Frequency Response: 23 Hz - 500 Hz
Sensitivity: 87 dB
Dual 4 Ohm Voice Coil Version
Mounting Depth: 8"
Sealed Box Volume: 0.7 - 1.0 cubic ft
Ported Box Volume: 0.75 - 1.75 cubic ft
Kevlar re-enforced Pulp Fiber Cone Assembly
Santo-prene Rubber surround material stops un-wanted vibration noises and ensure clean sound
Dual Voice Coil Design
Cast Aluminum Frame
This sub is vented and transfers the heat out of the sub so it stays cool at all times
Concealed Mounting Gasket SystemFrequency Response: 24 Hz - 500 Hz

And as i said before the JBL speakers i believe are 40W RMS and 120W peak 6.5''

Polak4life: I would suggest a 5 channel to run your whole system. Running your left and right sides in parallel at 2 ohms tends to drop your damping factor and cone control. It won't sound as good as running them at 4 ohms, 1 speaker per channel.

The 5th channel on most 5 channel amps are designed to run subs. They're higher power and usually has a seperate power supply internally, but while making installation easier and less complicated.

You may want to check out a US Amps AX5600.

well rather than a 5 channel amp i would go with two amps. I just dont want to spend too much money. I can get a mono amp for the sub and i guess a 4 channel amp for the speakers, what would be best. I was told at audio to go by one of the installers that the clarion 360W amp i believe would be great to power the 4 speakers parallel in two channels and the type r sub in the other channel. He quoted me 400$ on the amp. I dont know what to do anymore?

Ok to power my 4 JBL speakers this would be sufficient correct?

Spec :
# 2/3/4 channels
# Maximum power
# 4 x 100W or 2 x 222W (4ohm)
# Rated power 4 x 40W or 2 x 80W
# Low pass filter
# 80HZ
# High pass filter
# 80HZ
# Mosfet power supply

its a sony amp and i know someone selling one for 50$, i figured i would let that power my 4 speakers 40W RMS each and get a mono amp?, would this be a good idea, enlighten me someone, lol

I've got an Alpine Type-R dual 2ohm (new 500W/1500W version) in a ported box. I have it wired in series for a total of 4 ohms.

Right now it's powered by a MTX 2160, which puts out about 400W RMS.
I don't find it to be enough, and it leaves the sub underpowered, and me wanting more.

I'm looking to get a RF amp that puts out a minimum 700W RMS for the sub, and power my two new 6x9's (75W RMS) with the MTX I have now, so I'm going to recommend you go with a 2 amp setup, unless you can find something powerful enough to power everything, if even possible.

Double check the ratings for the Sony amp if you're going to seriously consider it. Most amps are rated using 2 ohm per channel output, so if you're going to use 4 ohm 6.5", the output will halve.
i.e. My MTX puts out 400Wx1@4ohms / 200Wx2@2ohms / 100Wx2@4ohms.

Polak4life, you have a dual 4ohm version which you can wire at 2ohms and the Alpine MRD-M605 will give you over 600WRMS at 2ohm load. Which would be more than enough to properly power that sub. And I wouldn't use anything Sony personally.
