2 15" Kicker L5 sealed

I am purchasing my next subs local which leaves me short on options as far as SPL subs go. I have been looking in to getting 2 15" Kicker L5's. I am not concerned with SQ at all however due to size constraints have been throwing around the idea of using a sealed box.

A search on the internet does not show many people using them sealed. Does anyone know what sort of performance I can expect when using them sealed at around 2ft3 per sub.

They will be powered by a MRP-M2000 at 4 ohm which they should see around 750w each.

As a point of reference the previous subs in the same vehicle were
2 - JL 12w3v3 sealed.

Any reason you are stuck on getting a pair of 15"?

Not stuck on it just limited with options. I have the local big box brands in town here and the options are even more limited on what I can actually listen to in store. L5's were at my store of preferance so I thought to research them out first.

In another post I asked about some Tsunami DB-15's which are the only other 15's I can demo in town, got no response.

Budget is around 800 for both subs.

If you can suggest something that will fit the bill better than the L5's I am all ears

I was going to suggest going with a pair of 12"s ported. I would also check out Mach 5 Audio IXL series... Very good SQL with great bang for buck

Any thoughts about the pre loaded Kicker 12" L5 package. Are they the typical high tuned boxes are do they maintain any SQ (I know that SQ doesn't go in the same sentence as L5's)

I would need to research the Mach 5's a bit more. My only concern was keeping it local for warranty work etc... but if they have a good rep I am less concerned.

Those pre loaded enclosures will do well, but I wouldn't count on getting much SQ outta it.

A pair of L5 12"s would be a great combo though.

Well that may well be the way to go. The pre loaded dual 12's ring in at the same price as dual 15's without the box. I have been so let down with output on my last few subs that I want to get this one right. Maybe i'll chat up Yuli for a price on some TF One's as well

Here's an enclosure I designed for "Crashman2K9's" 2 12" L5's. They just fit in the box. Not sure what vehicle you have. His was a 2000 stang and was really tight on space.

You could fit one 15" TF One in a box with the same volume and it will take the MRP-M2000 you have without any problems.

Yes I am quickly learning that most who don't use large ported for the L5's are disappointed. I think my idea of shopping locally is out the window. I have pm\d Yuli for a price and am looking in to the Mach 5's

Crashman2k9 02-19-2010 11:46 AM

honnestly go with 2 12's
2 15's will kill ur SQ by alot

i had to beef up ma interior speaker from 40rms to 100rms speaker's all around so that when the bass drop it doesnt kill the sound

After more and more research i decided the box requirements were too large to use the driver's to their potential in my car. That and the mixed reviews about the craftsmanship and their horrid SQ got me looking around.

I'm sure the TFOne's would demolish my car but my budget would not allow me to buy two and still have a box made.

Decided on two 12" Mach 5 IXL which I will have a ported box built to specs.

Good choice... I'll be ordering mine near the end of the month.

why will 2 15's kill the sq?

I'm with everyone else on this ... trying to seal those 2 15's and get SQ out of them? I don't know ...
I've heard this and that about subs but it's not until you truly hear for yourself the LAG you're getting out of fast music ... I had 1 15" L7 and I could hear it if I was listening to something really fast ... but oh man could it get low :D

The intention was not to seal in order to get teh SQ from them. It was a space consideration for the most part. I was not in a position to go for a huge ported box and wanted to determine their performance, if any in a smaller sealed box.

I have decided that the L5's would not be getting used to their potential and therefor opted for a couple Mach 5's
