2001 sunfire
 

is there something speacial you need to wire a deck in a 2001 sunfire?
at future shop they said they need a special thing that costed like $200cnd to wire the deck up? is this true?

You need a $20 wiring harness...

For 2000 and up j-bodys you need either a factory HU relocation harness or a HU delete module.

This is necessary because in newer GMs the HU is no longer just a radio/cd player, it also acts as a computer control module for other components in the vehicle.

I don't know the exact $$$ it costs but it is much more than $20. If you're doubting it call a few car audio shops and ask them what it takes to install it. It never hurts to get a second opinion,

Future shop told me the same thing when I ask for a wiring harness for my 2005 pontiac pursuit.After a couple of verification with people in my dealership,I mysteriously found that I dont need to buy (for me it was 85$) this crap.BUT and I dont know if its your case,if your car is onstar equiped you will need another harness.

Canadian retailer prices for interface modules are rip offs. Importers and middlemen + markups, on top of list prices.

I just paid list price US 159.95 (no tax, no shipping) for a radio (OnStar) replacement module. Best canadian price was 300.00
I also got the steeling wheel controls interface for 44.60, plus shipping. Best price in canada was 125.00

Relocation kit with a speaker for chimes shouldn't be any more than $80. If your dealer costs more look for another dealer. Relocation harness without the speaker usually can be found for $65 from a decent retailer not intent on screwing you.

Right BS on this

I just did a install on a 2000 Cavy J-body and all i need'ed was a $15 harness and she bought a metra mounting kit for the HU to mount from the back for a nice clean look.

On are cars we only loose the chimes and the lights,to tell you your e-brake or lights are on.

Now the higher up cars i recommend one,because they tell you when the only needs to be changed etc.

The only main thing i get from people is they Loose they RAP whitch keeps the radio on untill the door is open or for 5 mins.

As you have to find a switched 12v for the new HU

the harness is for a 2000 up tracker you need

it says cobalt but they are both the same and built on the Delta platform

Cavy man14, you are MECP certified are you? What part of doing things right did you not pay attention to in school then? And now you are doing work for other people as well and being paid to do a job properly and professionally?

IT IS ILLEGAL IN CANADA TO REMOVE A SAFETY DEVICE. The class II databus circuit and the chime module specifically is classed as a SAFETY DEVICE. Why? In Canada seatbelts are mandatory. The seatbelt reminder, well, lets think about it for a minute, runs through the chime module. While it may be a PITA for some people, it is what sets a prefessional installer or business aside from the backyard hacks that think they know it all. And we just proved that they don't. The day that one of your "customers" has a accident and in the lawyers world of today, you are setting yourself up for a major lawsuit. Why....."I did not think to put my seatbelt on sir", Why not "because the chime module did not tell me to". And that is the end of your life as you know it. Sure the guy should have had enough common sense to put his seatbelt on the same way you as a paid MECP certified installer should have done the job properly and correctly for the paying customer.

Most vehicle manuals describe a way to defeat the chime.
