oh and as for music i listen to, i guess it doesn't help that it pretty much ranges across all genres...from alternative, to hip-hop, to house/trance, some rock (REM/Nirvana-style)

i'm leaning towards this as the second step...i'm waiting to see if anyone's done some clever installs of a sub in the car before just dumping a box in the trunk...hopefully someone like JL will make a "stealth" for it.

i've been searching through e90post.com which apparently is the most active e90/92 specific forum online...so far all the installs for subs have been a "box in the trunk" type setup...wiring a new amp is also quite easy -- i believe the battery is in the trunk.

the stock setup has 2 8.5" "subs" under each of the front seats, and 4 4" co-ax speakers -- 2 in the front, and 2 in the back. there's also 2 stock amps -- 1 to power the speakers at 25W RMS @ 2ohms, and 1 for the "subs" at 40W RMS @ 2 ohms.

so i'm thinking that after the speaker/amp upgrade, i'll add a sub to handle all the low-freq's, and allow the 2 "stock, under-seat subs" to handle more mid-range...what do u think? is this even possible??

Your I-Drive is tied into the factory head unit do not change it.

do you have the Logic 7 System in the car or basic? if you have the L7, they come alive if you add an aftermarket amp and a basic eq to your existing speakers.

If you have the basic audio, new speakers will be beneficial. As for a sub, take your pick! any decent brand will offer good performance for low end "fill" i emphasize fill because i dont think you are looking for extreme amounts of bass. Just something to fill in the lower octaves.

Regards,
