can i run 4 speakers off a 2ch amp?
example: amp: 100rms x 2 @ 2 ohms can i wire my left speakers (a 6.5" round and a 6x9) in parallel so they produce a 2 ohm load and then wire that to one channel of an amp, and the same for the right speakers? will all speakers then get 50watts? i know if i do this, then i will lose fader control but i dont care about that. all i want to know if i can do this without any potential damages or risks. Thank you. |
thank you.
can i do that with different speakers, or do i need to wire the same speakers together. example: can i wire a 6.5" and a 6x9 in parallel, or do both speakers have to be the same? |
and would this be a good amp to do the job, for dirt cheap:
MTX ROAD THUNDER 202 |
Yes you can wire each side, to hae a 2 ohm load on each channel. Each speaker should get 50 watts.
The only thing I can think of is losing fader control. I've done this with a really crappy amp, and had no problems, so you should be fine with the MTX. I'm sure many others have done this as well. |
Ya as long as each driver is 4 ohms each the size of it don't matter at all.
Some say that you will lose SQ but i think its a load of crap,lol...IMO of coarse It will happen but will you hear it? doubt it |
yup, you can do that. no biggie

yes it will work but what are you trying to do ?

because of this
2 channel amps are way easier to find than 4 channel ones. so instead of finding a 4 channel, and getting a little more powerful so it can push soem real power at 4 ohms, id rather just buy a 2 channel and run the speakers in parallel to make a 2 ohm load and use the 2 channel to its fullest. |
Just finished hooking up a 9 speaker system in my sister's car with a 2 channel mtx thunder 342 and it rocks. Just make sure you don't drop below the rated impedance for each channel and you will be o.k. As it turns out each speaker gets about 30 watts(mid and tweeter x 4) and the 4 ohm sub gets about 110-120 watts. More than enough for her, and sounds very nice. total cost 425.00 not including x-plod deck that came with the kia, includes all pioneer speaks and a jbl sub and my labour($0.00) can't charge your baby sister for hobby work.
