4x6 to 5.25 or 6.5 adapter plates.
 

hey, just wondering if anyone knows where I can find these, none of my local shops that I know about carry them. The vehicle is a '03 chevy malibu with factory 4x6's that are in pretty rough shape.

You could make your own. You can take out the current speaker mount, and trace the shape on a peice of board. Then, cut a circle 4.75 or 6.0 in diameter (May differ from this slightly, just cut a circle with a diameter large enough that the basket of the speaker fits, but small enough that the mount holes are still on the board) in the center of it. If you cut it actual size (6.50 or 5.25) you won't be able to secure them properly. Make sure you mark the mount holes from the factory mount as well, so you know where to drill the holes in the board in order to mount it to the door frame.

After that, just trim the excess board so the mount fits properly on the door, and doesn't disturd the fitment of the interior door panel. The real trick to all of this is using the correct size board for the mount. You want one that is thick enough so it doesn't let the magnet of the speaker hit say the window when it's rolled down, but you don't want one so big as to interfere with the fitment of the interior door panel.

I done this in my Cavalier last winter, and used 3/4 MDF as a mount, and it worked perfect, I even had enough room to put the grills on over the speakers without hitting the interior door panel. I may have done a write up on this, so if I find it I can link you up. I also have a few install pictures here on the computer, and I can throw them up for you if you like.

You can go to crappy tire and order them...metra product, 10 bucks, get them in 2 days.

thanks for the replies guys, if it were my car i'd be all for doing it myself, but its my mom's car and i'm just too lazy to do that when i can buy them for cheaper than my time is to make them. but yeah i'll check out crappy tire thanks.

i made my own using plywood... i used the stock 6x8 and cut out
the surface area for 5 1/4s...very simple if you have the proper tools
