5.25 Midbass Enclosure volume

Hey guys,

Been awhile since I frequented the forums, it's good to be back. Was going to post this in the enclosure section, but it's only a 5.25, so it seemed more suited to the general. Anyways, I got a set of Clif Designs components for free, and decided to couple them and a woofer together for a small system in my garage. Not the best name by far, I know, but it's better than nothing! So, I've got my sub box mounted on the wall, but now comes the question on the speakers. I figured that I'd build a very small sealed enclosure made of MDF to house them in, and just attach the tweet on the outside of the box. But, how big woukld I build this box? 1/2 a cube or less? I'm stumped!

This question always divides people. GroupA believes most car audio drivers are designed to work in a door cavity or trunk - essentially a leaky 3cuft or bigger box or infinite baffle. GroupB believes that all speakers have an enclosure that the speaker will work best in for maximum performance.

I tend to be in GroupA, but do respect GroupB's outlook and also believe that some 'car audio' speakers are certainly better served by being in an enclosure.

If I were you, I'd try to get the T/S specs for the speaker. If that's difficult, try 1/2cuft.

As dukk said, TS specs will be able to tell you the volume required for them.
