5" subs
if i add 2 5" subs 1 in each back door how will it be for SQ
|
For SQ, likely poor.
Doors have a tone of vibration issues caused by lock, handle, and window mechanisms. Not to mention the difficulty in sealing off the door. If you really want to use the door and be serious about SQ, bulid a pod, and double/triple layer the door with deadening. Where can you get 5" subs? I'm looking for something like that for the back of my wife's car - she doesn't want a speaker box so I'm trying to be creative with factory locations. |
The most common 5" "sub" is the Focal. A pair is going to do zippo.
If you are shoving in a 5" driver, may as well get a 6.5" and enjoy the extra cone area. |
Focal makes a very pricey little unit that apparently defies the laws of physics by being able to pound out the bass like a 10" driver or something :p
Unless you like to play around with the tuning of your system a whole lot, then the 5s in the back doors may not be the best idea. Depends though on what you want them to do: play subbass, midbass, etc. You seem to like Focal though so maybe load up on like 8 of them and play around :dunno: I understand that in groups of 4 or more, they can provide some pretty decent bass. Then again, the cone area of a single 10 is exactly that of 4 5's and I'm pretty sure buying 4 of those would equal a fair bit more than a nice 10. To each their own though. |
Well 2 5WS mini subs won't do much in a rear deck, especially if it's IB.
But they DO work VERY well in *PROPERLY SEALED DOORS* They do pound and they sound excellent despite all the naysayers who probably haven't heard them period let alone in a proper set-up. SQ wise....they sound nice but they aren't really going to do much for you in the back doors. maybe add a little midbass but midbass is directional, so it'll likely sound crappy. |

But yeah..... its output is definately too low if you're only running two in total. I would recommend atleast two per channel in a ported enclosure. and if you listen to mainly rap music, run the K2 power 10s or 12s etc. otherwise you'll be probably claiming warrenty weekly. lol |
I have a pair of 6.5" JL subs i'm not using. I had them in my old car for about 4 months, paired with eclipse 5.25 3-ways. I ran them active with a crossover point about 160Hz. Worked very well. Unfortunately, they wouldn't fit in my new car. Unless somebody wants them, i think i'll build a box for all 4 and use them as my center channel under my TV??

Considering I am that naysayer and that I had a set of over a year I think my opinion is valid. How long did you own a set? :eyes: And their final install was in a totally sealed set of custom door buildouts. With 100 watts each I was still unimpressed. Sound was fine, overall output was IMO unimpressive. As Joe said use 4 or more, preferably ported, and IMO you have just achieved the performance of a single 10 but for much more money.. |
I have used the ED EU700's (6.5" sub) in a vented box with surprisingly nice results: http://www.edesignaudio.com/edv2/product_info.php?cPath=21&products_id=33
They sound a lot bigger than they really are, but I have not had a chance to try them out in doors, though. They are deep (3.5") and quite heavy, look through the ED forum, quite a few guys have done rear deck/door installs with them...... |
in essence to your question do i put in focal rear fill for improved sound.......... answer NO!!!!!! now close this thread and lets never speak of this moment again.
