6 Drivers, 6 Channels, only 4 Pre Outs
(Not counting the Sub preouts)
This is an active question. So what do I need to make this work? Obviously I need something to interface between the head unit, speakers, and amps right? Something like a signal proccessor. I "get" the basic idea here but I'm unclear on how to get the proper signal (highs, mids, lows) to the proper driver. If i just stuck the front RCA's in the 4 channel and hooked up the tweets and mids, then used the rear RCA's for the midbass on my 2 channel, would that sound like ? The amps have both have basic filters, HP/LP etc. Is there a device out there where I plug in 4 RCA'S from the head unit, then I have 6 RCA outs from there to plug in to my amps? I mean, to me, I think each driver should have its own channel (obviously) but also each driver should be hooked to something that allows me to tailor the signal and/or frequency, independant of the amp controls. there are many devices like that, from line drivers to variouse signal processors.
you could probably also use rca Y splitters for your 4 channel amp to fill up all of the inputs. what would happen is your fader feature wouldnt work properly IF you have any mids and tweets mounted at the rear. since you are using the front rca out for the 4 channel amp all the speakers hooked up to it would act as "front" speakers. same goes for the midbass amp. other than that you should not have any issue, just makesure the xovers and all that are set properly on your amps. |

Alpine pxa-h701...8 preouts ...2 front tweeters, 2 front midrange, 2 rear full range (can be used for front mid bass as well), 1 front center, 1 subwoofer...or..use your front outs to an electronic xo to split it into 2 or 3 outputs, and use your rear outs for the rear or to another xo for whatever you want to do...lots of ways!

you can just use an RCA Y splitter off of your front deck outputs to your amps front and rear or use the summing feature of the amp if it has that feature.
Most amps don't have adequate xovers to do tweeters. Make sure you can go up to around 4000 or 5000hz. If not, you can't use your amps for xovers, you will need a seperate xover. Usually amps go up to mor or less 500hz and that's no good. |

small 2 way elec cross over between the front out and the front amp will allow you to cross the tweeter and mid at a proper frequency and use the 4channel for front mids and tweets. The mid's can be high passed fromt the amp's cross over above say 200 hz. Then the rear out can be used for the mid bass using the amp's cross over to filter everything above say 200 hz. The only problem with this is that the midbass will need another cross over to eliminate ultra low bass frequencies...say below 50 hz.
