6 speakers and 4 channel amp
 

6 speakers

pair 4" in dash 30 watt RMS
pair 5.25" in doors 35 watt RMS
pair 4x6" in rear 30 watt RMS

i have a 4 channel amp 4 x 40 Watts.

my head unit Alpine cda 9833 and i believe is 26 watt x 4 RMS

my question is: should i run the rear 4 x 6 off of the power of the HU?
or should i buy a seperate 2 channel amp?
i like having the rear fill in the back, i find that it makes a difference to me.
and i wont always have the sub on, so i want some sound in the rear.

run all the fronts off the amp and run the rears off the deck.

On the bottom of my head unit there is a switch... 2 way and 3 way.
i have the option to set it to one or the other.
i read the manual and i still dont quite understand it.

how do i know which setting i need?

The 2way/3way switch is to change the crossover settings, I believe. Setting it to 3 way is for when you want to run a 4 channel for mids and tweets (front 2 channels run the tweeters only, rear 2 channels run the mids) and another amp for subs. This way you do not use the passive crossovers that come with component sets, I believe this is called going "active" rather than passive for the crossover. Setting it to 3 way changes the crossover frequencies that thedeck output, so the front rca outputs only do the higher frequencies to the tweeters (eg 2khz and up), the rear outputs can do bandpass (eg 60hz highpass all the way up to 4khz to overlap the tweeters), and then the sub rca outputs only pass the lowest frequencies. Hope this helps.
