6w3v3 in kickpanels
 

I was tossing around the idea of picking up two 6w3v3's to put in kickpanels at the front of the car. I have two 12x3v3's in the trunk and absolutely love the sound.

The 6w3v3's are good up to 300hz. I was thinking of crossing over my 12w3v3 at 80hz. Then, I would use the 6wv3v to go from 80hz to 300hz. Finally let my components pick up 300hz and above.

Does anyone have any input as to how this would sound, any issues, good/bad points etc...

I thought about the same thing usong my 13.5 inch w7 as bass. And 2 8 " w7s for midbass I just wouldn't know how to hook it up.

From what I understand, around that freq range and up (more so the higher freq) the sound becomes directional. This means the distance between the Mid-range, tweeter, and mid-bass will have to be considered. Other wise phase distortion can occur.

6W3v3's are in my future door plans .... pods where designed to house them in the first place. My RF's are just place holders. :smilie_da

Anyone have any thoughts on the crossover points, should I be crossing over the 12's lower and thus doing the same for the 6's.

I like 63hz, but I listen to many different types of music. :dunno:

to achieve this setup I would obviously be better off going active however could I achieve acceptable results using the lpf for the 12's, hpf for the components and the lpf for the 6's with an inline resistor to limit the low end frequencies to the desired range

A few months ago I was looking for new midbass drivers to replace my Orion MB6s......one of the four smoked itself and I was looking at the 6W3s as a replacement driver. They would be a great addition to any system, I have my subs cut off around 55hz and was planning on running them in roughly the same range as you are considering.

I was told they would really appreciate the whole 150w per driver they are rated for....since I needed 4 of them the cost got a little too high for me and I ended up going a different route which has worked out well for me....:smokin:

I have a buddy with a small wagon and a wife who doesn't appreciate mobile audio at all.....:laugh: I told him we could put 2 of them in a ported box about the size of a shoe box......still waiting for the go-ahead on that project....:D

If you decide to try them, make sure you install them properly.....I would suggest finding a 2way Xover to create the passband for them, the semi-passive idea you mentioned above would cost you some sound and it would be a shame to throttle them back like that.....in a well sealed door they should make your pant legs flap in the breeze.......:smilie_da

Thanks for the reply. I am currently looking for what amp to use. I have a 2 channel that does 150w x 2 which is currently powering my front components, however would need to get a 4 channel which would do the same. Or go with 3 amps which I am not too fond of however price wise may be the end result.

I am looking at doing kick panels for each speaker. I just need to figure out if there is room or not to do them without sacraficing too much space.
