8 inch sub recommendations
 

Looking for an 8inch that can take 400rms at 4ohms(or thereabouts) also curious if there are 4ohm DVC 8's that will take 200rms... basically I have an older excelon kicking around that will put out 400at 4 ohm or 2 x 200 at 2ohm... either way I would like to put an 8 up front below the center console... if I use one I plan on putting it directly under the center console (1995 grand prix) with two one will point up and the other on a slight angle... (any other placement suggestions much appreciated)... currently I'm running 2 JBL Power series 12's and JBL GTO 5.25 components... looking for that lacking midbass... the 5.25's are in sealed chambers in the door, they sound better than previously mounted on the factory plastic speaker mounts, though there are still missing elements from 60 - 100hz...

and if you are lacking midbass i think a 10 will do you more good then an 8.

look for those thin mount subs and you could do some diy components in the kicks, or as a door pod.

jbl has the gto which is nice and thin.
kicker has a sub thats nice and thin.
pioneer makes one aswell.
they are all good and when they get like 200W's they really can get to wangin.

that brings in another equation, is it good running 10's and 12's together? I am opting for 8's in a small sealed box, its a big car but I would like to keep some room up front for the driver and me too!

A different subwoofer won't cure your lack of midbase.
Either get a bigger set of compnents or rework the enclosure for your current mids.

Midbase to me is more around 80hz-150hz, def not down to 60.

I currently use four MTX 5500 4 ohm DVC 8s and I really like them. Rated at 200rms I feed them over 350 each and they never give me any trouble. :smilie_da

thanks Dukk, those are precisely the specs I'm looking for... what is the mounting depth for those subs? and AAAAAA my subs will play up to 80hz no problem... but my 5.25's wont cover that missing element and they are built into pods in the doors, completely sealed... 6 1/2's could be crammed in there, with a lot of fabrication and I'm currently not interested in doing that... and I have no doubt that 8's will play higher than 80hz, which is why I'm looking into them... plus I have a DClass amp that needs to be put into action, would rather buy drivers for them than buy another amp, rechop my doors and shoehorn 6 1/2's...

You can get some exceptional performance from a Digital Design 1500 Series 8". They definetly can take a beating and provide a surprising amount of output.

They're rated at 450w rms and 900w transient. Single voice coil 4 ohm.

i had the chance to listen to a DD 1008 (the previous model) in a small 4x4 suv, the enclosure was about one cube vented with around 130 watts rms. boy did it sound good, and tons of output for an 8. had more output than some 12's i have heard in a sealed enclosure. i am trying to save up to get myself a pair of 1508's. :D
