Depends on the tools you got.

At minimum I'd want to have a brad nailer. I don't like ****ing around with screws. Crimps to hold the construction too.
A table saw would help too or as an alternative, getting the mdf cut at HD/Rona may turn out very good, depending on the mood of the guy at that time of day :).
I'm sure with mdf + glue + small stuff and carpet you can be under $60-80 range to pull it off.

if you were to buy one, you'd do to your nearest reputable local shop. It won't be $80 though.

how do i figure the right dimensions for an 8"?
is there a formula?

df.dima 10-30-2007 10:08 PM

you need at least manufacturer's box size recommendation or t/s specs of the driver to model out yourself.

I recommend that you play with winsd just with any size so you'll find out a few things.

LinearTeam

there's bassbox pro, but i think winisd is easier to pick up.

Don't be shy, build a doghouse for that sub. Do you have the driver already? If so please, do tell

i have very little room in my vw corrado. it need to be as small as possible.

i will buy a PolkMomo 8"(200W RMS) that will be powered by a Alpine V Power 220 W RMS.

thanks

For an 8" driver in a low-power application, why not try building your own enclosure? 8" prefab boxes are uncommon, and most shops don't stock them though could order one from hammerhill etc... You mentioned a 220 watt alpine amp...do you mean a MRP-T220? If so, that's only 140w RMS @ 4ohm mono, or 2x50w RMS. It's a small amp, the bare minimum for a subwoofer application, however it should be adequate for your Polk 8".

I'm not familiar with the Polk woofer, but it should accommodate a very small enclosure (basically big enough to hold the speaker itself)

.5-.8 cubes should do the trick in a sealed application. It won't be very loud, but if you just want some low end...should be ok. Just a note, a 12" type r Alpine sub just needs .85 cubes sealed to sound very good, and it gets loud with 500 watts...just thought I'd mention it incase you have the space.

I had a 1.5cuft ABC with an RE8 in my 86 Civic hatch and it was slammo  :D

the amp that i will buy is the Alpine MRP-M450 stated at 220W RMS.
i think it will be ok for the 8" 200W PolkMomo. right?

You still going on about those ABCs?......:cheeky4:

BTW, how's the hearse coming along? Any new news?

Well from what I can tell, those MOMO subs come 4 ohm DVC, meaning that either you will get too much power from the amp (400rms at 2 ohm) or not enough (100? at 8 ohms) So if you're looking at running only one sub, try finding a smaller mono block that will give you 200rms at 2 ohms. I might be wrong about the coil configurations, but I'm assuming that they only come dual 4's. I have an re8 and it is also dual 4.

Providing that it is a 4 ohm single voice coil sub it appears to be a good match. So how much room are you willing to sacrifice for the sub? I would make a decent (big) sized box and tune it low and you will probably be amazed that it's an 8. Do any of your friends have a set up with 8's? A buddy of mine had 2 8's in a big ported box and it sounded great. Best of luck.

Hi, I'm trying to find out what size speakers fit the front doors, and in the dash for a 2000 grand caravan. I know 6x9's are in the back. Any info would greatly be appriciated. Thank's.: stroke:

And you would ask this in the middle of a thread about 8" sub boxes why??

I know you're new, but read the rules before you start posting....please.....:newbie:

Sorry Big Red Guy, I wanted to start a new post but couldn't find where to start one. I promise not to do it again. In the meantime could you help me out. I looked in the manual but nothing in there "NEGATIVE". Thanks.

how do i find out if it ia a single voice coil? It clearly says that it a 4 ohm.

thanks

Typically somewhere it will say the coil configuration, I would assume that if it didn't mention it was a DVC (dual voice coil), then we could assume that is a single coil... I typed in Polk MOMO 8inch sub into google and from what I read, it is a DVC 4ohm. Another way to tell is to see how many + and - connections there are on the basket of the speaker itself. Do you physically have the sub yet? Whatever the case you are going to want to match the RMS rating for the sub to the RMS rating of the amp, going a little over will not make much difference (although it can).

Junkinthetrunk 11-05-2007 08:11 AM

I personally wouldn't go with that 8". HAve you looked at the HERTZ 8". Absolute killer and in a small small box too. Next on my list is the Arc Audio SE 8". HERTZ is better though for what it is, but the Arc is right there behind it, although I think the Arc is cheap price wise...............

does this mean that it is NOT a good match with the Alpine V Power that i want to buy?

thanks

If the amp puts out 200 wRMS at 4 ohms and the sub is a 4 ohm load, comfortable with 200 wRMS then yes, they are a good match for each other.

earlier you mentioned that it would not work it the sub was a Dual Voice Coil. i dont quite understand why. and it seems that the MOMO is indeed a DVC.

thanks
