looking for
sound quality? loudness? a mix of both? more SQ or SPL? how much space u got to work with how much power u got? we need more info... |
I am looking more for sq than loudness. As for room I am going to mount these under my rear seat(2000 GMC Sierra extende cab 4x4).I don't have an amp yet as I figured I would start with the subs and go from there. I am leaving the stock front speakers in but will replace the rear door speakers(don't know with what yet).

You can find old stock RF HX2 8"s on ebay for very cheap, if you're into the ebay thing.
There are also Kicker L7 8's, and many boutique companies like Elemental Designs(eD), Resonance Engineering (Re), etc Personally I'd put the bulk of my money into my amp, fronts and install in the setup you mention, if I were you. With a good set of high/mid end components like Focals or CDT or something, and some good quality power, and a great install, you can get away with 'skimping' for a bunch of XS Cargo 8"s, and not really notice the differnece, in my experience. You arent looking to go nuts with the SPL, so put the money into the things that will help you achieve your goals best, which will be components, amp(s) and install (kickpanels, etc). Subs are like the 'steaks' of car audio, I think. They look tempting/fulfilling and make us want to blow our collective wallet-wads on them because they are just so 'sexy'....but you'll get better results spending some extra time/money on the side dishes and spices (mids/highs), buying a good grill on which to cook the 'steak' (amp), and ask any 'chef'...its really all in the final presentation (install). //sweet ass analogy mode off// Good Luck. |
Id look at any brands in your price range and start modeling them with the space you have available.
Since you will have a very small airspace to work with you will probably want relativly high compliance and a lot of power handling if its going to go very deep. Id probably try and avoid having the subs firing directly up into the seat if possible.. |
Hello Haunz, do you think there would be a problem with a down-firing box?
|
As long as there is some clearance...

lol, the AVI SL woofers are certainly very nice. I dunno if you can get SL-200s for a hundred a pop though ;)
I like my MTX 5500 8" also. |
Thanks for all the info folks, I was looking into the 8" Kickers and also Image Dynamic ID8v.3,MA Audio MA800XL,and the JL Audio 8W6 which really kinda caught my eye. Any thoughts?

Elemental Designs 9Kv2.

the ID and JL, as well as the kicker, will all things being equal destroy the MA Audio. MA is a decent 'low end' brand, basically. JL and ID are mid-to-high, depending on who you ask. However you SHOULD be able to get like 4 MA 8's for less than 200 I would imagine.
However, I dunno if you can GET the JL or the Kicker for that price....MAYBE the ID, but I am not sure. the ED is a good choice of a lot of people 'round here also...and might be a BIT cheaper. Maybe you can connect with some of the BC guys off here that work/run shops and see what they have to offer so you can listen to them first, perhaps. |
Kicker dosent have much on MAaudio if you ask me...
The L5 or L7 8s are alright but I dont think you are going to find them for $200 a pair.... On the other hand XE 8s will easily compair to the CompVR 8s and if thats not good enough you could go for the XLs... Not saying Id necassarily buy MA either... but if you can find it dirt cheap thats always a bonus... Edit: those tangband 8s Exmax mentioned are pretty kick ass, with a decent price too... Although I remember seeing them for $32US each ??? [ March 16, 2005, 01:42 PM: Message edited by: Haunz ] |
