99 Cavalier ABS Modulator/Motor pack assembly
I have had the brake & ABS lights lit on my dash for 3 months. Paid 150.00 bucks today to find out the error code DTC C1246: Rear ABS channel will not move. The guy says the ABS Modulator/Motor pack assembly is bad and the replacement from the dealer is 477.50 + tax! Is there a cheaper way to fix this????? He did take the bottom off the unit hoping to see a gear loose, no luck.

well there are 3 ways to go about fixing your problem. the first 2 choices are just based on preferance, i personally hate abs, and have had nothing but bad experience with it, so here goes your options.
-Option 1, cheapest, quickest fix, take some black electrical tape and cover them lights up. lol, dosnt fix anything, but bye bye lights.
-Option 2, very cheap, time consuming. pull ur dash and gauges out and pull the bulbs for the lights that wont shut off. again, dosnt fix anything, but i hate abs and thtas wat i would do.
-Option 3, gte it fixed. try a local smaller shop that will fix your car and it will probably be cheaper then the dealer, if they have to get parts from the dealer it might still be a bit cheaper as labour prices are usually less then a dealers price.
i had a 93 suburban, and i found out i hated the abs and just unplugged it...no lights came on or anything. you might not be as lucky if you do this as i think i got lucky that no light came on, but u never no.
anyways, best of luck with ur problem. hope i could of been of some help.lol.

How about buying the part from someone else, maybe online and installing it yourself? Gm- charges a huge markup. all of their parts are made buy somebody else. All you have to do is find the oem and pay half the gm price.
That's what i'd do.
I replced an alt myself for 89.00. GM wantd 300 for the alt.
I replaced a window motor for 14.90, GM wanted 147.00 just for the part.
I could go on. but i'm getting upset and i'll start a rant...
