Active setup
So about a year ago I picked up a Pioneer DSP for next to nothing and decided to go to an active system. When I was running the system passive I was using a 4 channel amp bridged to two, 2x180rms@4ohms. When I went active I used a separate channel for each component giving me 4x75rms. I was never able to get it sound right regardless of how much tuning I did and was seriously contemplating going back to passive. Today as a last ditch effort I added another two channel amp that I had kicking around to drive just the tweeters and re-bridged the 4 channel back to two to drive only the mid bass. Voila, it sounds the way it should again with only minimal tuning. I guess my mid-bass drivers just plain need the power. Live and learn they say.

I'll second that. Rather than starting from flat I plug the mic in and let the dsp run an auto eq session, which for the most part gets me into the ballpark then start tweaking from there. Saves a little time but then the fiddling continues.

it took me about a year to get my system dialed in. You'll know when it's there when you stop messing with the settings for a month or so. I haven't touched my settings in over 4 months now, so I know it's pretty close, though occasionally I still feel on some tracks that this or that could be better.

Jeez.. Im running 2 way active.. Im pretty satisfied with how it sounds...but..
1. I know I may need to give my mids more power
2. May need to adjust P.EQ settings some more..
Is there really such thing as a perfect sound ???

sure there is...perfect sound for me in my car for a particular track or portion of it. Otherwise I don't think you can get perfect anything in this world. Luckily, I learned to compromise a long time ago, and be satisfied with really good or great sound (or anything else for that matter) if I put enough effort in.
