hey everyone. awesome forum :smilie_da
im looking for advice on how i should set up my stereo. ive picked up random bits and pieces over the last year or so, nothing good but most of it came next to free so im not complaining. ive got this for a head unit. more info on it here Attachment 24514 i have three amps alpine info Attachment 24515 cant find info for the digital audio amp its two channel bridgeable 200 watt i believe Attachment 24516 info on the legacy Attachment 24517 for speakers i have infinity reference series 3012cf and 6802cf for subs i have a 12" digital audio with box to match Attachment 24518 i also have a really old 10" unknown brand in a crappy box. i forgot to get a pic but you can see it in this one Attachment 24519 i was thinking about throwing the small infinitys in the dash. pointing towards the front seats. would they be better in the door or do you just have to play around and see what sounds best? the 6802cf will stay where they are. as seen in the last pic. i thought id use the legacy to drive the 6802cf and get some mids for up front, probably in the doors? then use the digital audio amp for the 3012cf in the front. the alpine would be left to drive a sub. i don't need huge bass, just something thats going to sound good with heavier music. id go with no sub before i use one that sounds like crap. is 200 watts to little for the digital audio 12" sub? does having not enough power make it sound bad or just not loud? i'm considering buying an 8" or two instead of using what i have. i don't have much room for a large box anyway. generally speaking will a smaller sub be better for quicker/heavy music or is it all in the quality? while on the subject of subs, do you have to filter out the higher frequencies to keep it from getting sloppy/distorted or will the sub just ignore them? Also, can you use subs/speakers intended for home in a car? or does the cold damage them or something? so any suggestions? I'm fairly new to this so any help is appreciated. I'm on a tight budget but show me what you think i need anyway. thanks everyone |
Wow is that a Chevette/Acadian?! Don't see too many of those around anymore.
Your ideas are spot-on. Use the Legacy to run the four main speakers for now and the Alpine on the DA sub in the enclosure. You might find the output on the 3.5's isn't enough for you (especially lack of midrange/midbass output) and you may in the future upgrade to a bigger driver but for now just run what you brung and see how you like it. Keep the DA amp for a spare. The Alpine has a low-pass crossover in it to use on the sub and the Legacy has high-pass crossovers to use on the other speakers. The 3.5's can go anywhere they sound the best to you. |
Man, I just love your car. Very rare.
