Advice on install?

The processor went out on my clarion nx500 and I'm planning on replacing it with the Pioneer AVH-P4400BH. Yet I've been thinking of putting the 3400 or 1400 in there so I can do more with the rest of my system. Is the differences in those 3 decks a lot? The 3400, and 4400 seem nearly the same,
It's a 01 Mustang GT. I want to put the original Mach 460 amps back in because the JL Audio I replaced it with along with 4 alpine speakers does not sound significantly better at all. It was surprising how you could barely notice a difference. I also bought a 10w7 in the HO box (telling me it would fit, but it did not) so I took the sub out, had a guy make a "custom" box (of junk). I had a JL mono 500 trying to push it and it sounded horrible. So I took the loss and sent it back.

This time I'm hoping i may get some advice from pro's like you. There is a spot for tweeters near the driver and passenger mirrors, but I cannot find the size that goes there or to buy. If I get a quality 10" sub with solid amp can I get a low clean cut bass?

For around a $1k to 1,500 what would you do? I'm not trying to have it hit hard, just a nice massage with very loud mid's and highs

Know this is kiddie stuff to you guys, but would appreciate any advice fellas

I'm not a professional, far from it in fact. But I don't mind sharing my two cents...

With the 4400 you'd get the 7" screen, and 4V pre-outs, with Bluetooth, and HD Radio "built in".
The 3400 would give you the 5 13/16" screen, and 2V pre-outs, with Bluetooth, and HD Radio "built in".
The 1400 would give you the 5 13/16" screen, 2V pre-outs, but no Bluetooth, and the HD Radio is "optional".
There's also a 2400, which is essentially the 1400 with Bluetooth, for an extra $50.

To better help you, what exactly do you need from the source unit?
If you have a cell phone, and I'm assuming you do, then Bluetooth is essential. HD Radio is, if you're in Canada, a pointless feature, as it is not currently available in our market. And, as I understand it, the availability of the HD Radio in the USA leaves a lot to be desired. You had issues with the previous Clarion unit. It, too, is a 2V pre-out unit. I would suggest finding one that has 4V pre-outs.
The 4400 might be your best bet, if you don't mind tying up half your budget in that one piece of equipment.

There's an older Sony model, that has everything you need, plus Navigation, and could probably be found for the same price.

What is the make and model of the amp you were running the 10W7 with? That sub seems more than adequate, but it's a 3ohm SVC driver. Which, depending on which 500W Mono amp you had it hooked up to, can result in a different output (I'm thinking it was a little on the low side for that sub).

I'm curious to get more information about what you had, and what you're looking for...

IMO 500w is not enough for a W7 and if the box was junk it certainly would not have helped.

I would leave the Mach460 amps out. I have found them more trouble than useful. In fact, whenever a Mustang comes in for a new deck with that system I immediately bypass all the amps.
I would look for a decent little multichannel and sub amp like the JL XD 600/6 and 600/1, a decent 10 in a vented box, and eventually replacement speakers for the front.

I agree with Dukk that the 500W may have been part of the issue. My other thought is, was he hooked up to an amp that does 500W into 2ohm, and therefore getting less than 500W because of the 10w7's 3ohm voice coil...?
It'd be nice if Alex chimed in, so we could get a better idea of what he's after.

Get an amp for your door speakers. As far as your sub is concerned, if your amp is rated at 3-Ohms at 500W then that is plenty to push the W7. But if its rated at 2-Ohms 500W then you aren't getting 500W to your sub and you might want to look into a better sub amp.

Go with the 4400 and consider bypassing the Mach with a 4 channel amp and do a rebuild on the enclosure this will make a significant difference
